Therapists for college students near New York University
Therapy is an invitation to be messy, to dive into the unknown, to shed layers and come home to your truest self and aspirations with a sense of ease and belonging. Therapy is a safe, compassionate, non-judgemental space to explore, practice and play with challenging emotions, life patterns and memories that have shaped our internal world. Terceira is a New York University trained psychotherapist that specializes in treating anxiety, depression, complex grief, trauma, identity, career and life transitions. They serve a diverse clientele that ranges across race, age, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, and spiritual backgrounds. Terceira has experience serving survivors of various traumas and PTSD both globally and in New York City. They also have supervised private therapists as well as Masters of Social Work students from Columbia, NYU, Fordham, and Hunter University in their clinical studies. They blend their intersectional, trauma-informed lenses with rich somatic (body based) approaches, mindfulness techniques and EMDR (Eye Movement, Desensitization and Reprocessing) to build upon the resiliency of their clients’ healing. They believe in orchestrating a dialogue between the body and the mind for a deeper release of past sufferings to be able to be in the present. Through integrative therapy, Terceira hopes their clients find they have individual choices, agency, and empowerment in their communication, relationships, boundaries, identities, and self-worth.

Are you feeling overwhelmed, anxious, disconnected, or drained? Do you feel like no one understands what you have gone through/are going through? Or do you find that you keep your feelings and personal experiences to yourself so you’re not a burden to others? You are not alone. It is not uncommon to feel disconnected and lonely, especially in this day and age. My name is Patricia Sibiga and I am a graduate student at CUNY Hunter studying Mental Health Counseling. My goal is to work together to talk through feelings of dissatisfaction and having a space where you feel safe, comfortable, and heard. Being vulnerable about your feelings and experiences can feel really scary and hard to do, especially if you have experienced being shut down when trying to in the past. Holding onto difficult feelings on your own can start to feel like a weight on your shoulders that continues to get heavier without an end in sight. Starting therapy can help to release that weight and strengthen your resilience to life’s inevitable encounters. My ambition as a therapist-in-training is to create a space where you are able to discuss these feelings and experiences without feeling shut down and unheard. You deserve to have a space in your life to discuss these topics in a non-judgmental, uplifting environment! My practice is rooted in psychodynamic, CBT, and mindfulness based approaches with a sprinkle of somatic therapy. With these theoretical approaches, we can work together to learn how current and past experiences are impacting your day-to-day, to practice grounding and mindfulness, and discover healthy cognitive behaviors and coping skills that may help with psychological distress. Patricia Sibiga is a therapist-in-training at Sol Health. Sol Health is a digital health startup that offers $30 therapy to Gen Zs by connecting them with therapist-in-training accruing clinical hours.
*I can provide teletherapy if you are located in NYC or NYS* Going to college brings new life experiences and transitions with friends, family, partners, professors, and even with yourself. I believe therapy means making you feel deeply known and accepted, and by creating a warm and secure bond opens the space for long-lasting, personal growth. I appreciate how some old habits you have picked up at an earlier point may no longer serve you now. The process of understanding yourself with compassion and learning new ways of being in the world isn't always easy, but I'll be with you every step of the way. Together we can find and solve the "stuck points" holding you back from living a full and meaningful life. I work with individual adults focusing on mood and personality issues. As your therapist, my goal is to help you live up to the best version of yourself. My approach centers on harnessing your unique strengths in building the bridge between where you are and where you want to be. I take an integrative approach that reflects my dual training in transference-based theory such as Schema and evidence-based theory such as CBT. Thus, my treatment balances the exploration of experiential life with actionable change.

Welcome to my practice! My name is Nick and I am a licensed mental health counselor, credentialed alcohol and substance abuse counselor, and board certified telemental health provider. All services are offered online only. Most of our suffering derives from within. Imagine if you talked to a loved one the way you talk to yourself, or if someone spoke to you the way you speak to yourself. It would be unacceptable and it would not be tolerated. Yet we surrender to these thoughts, repeating the same hurtful, debilitating monologue in the echo chamber of our mind. Herein lies the certainty that derives from being on your own, stuck in a position you never reasoned yourself into in the first place. As you develop an awareness of these thoughts that have so greatly affected your life, you’ll learn how to develop a new, more rational narrative based on the values and beliefs that you yourself will create. As your therapist, my job is to navigate this process as you learn to actively change your thoughts, which change your feelings and impact your actions. I am a firm believer in achieving functionality. We want life to work for us, and not against us. Being a flawed, living, breathing human being, I too struggle with this everyday, and I bring that intense desire to make things work in the therapeutic relationship. We work together to solve the ambivalence. It is understandable that when it comes to our motivation to change, we have our ups & downs. I know what it feels like to be stuck. It’s painful, and when you’re in it, you think it will never end. The good news is that it does, and the process of seeing that end can be so much better having someone that understands you by your side, every step of the way. So are you ready to get started?
Are you overwhelmed by intrusive thoughts, constant “what ifs,” or compulsive behaviors that interfere with your daily life? Do you feel stuck in exhausting cycles of worry, rituals, or perfectionism, making it difficult to focus or experience peace? Are you paralyzed by indecision, or finding yourself constantly seeking reassurance from others? Do you feel shame or embarrassment? If so, I am here to help you break free from these confinements. I am a therapist specializing in Anxiety & OCD and understand how these challenges can take a toll on your well-being, relationships, and overall quality of life. My approach to treating anxiety & OCD is grounded in evidence-based practices while tailoring treatment to your unique needs. My approach is centered on understanding your unique experiences and providing you with the tools and strategies to regain control of your life. I’m committed to helping you build a life not defined by fear or worry, but by clarity.
I am passionate about supporting people on their journeys of self-exploration, empowerment, and healing. While this journey looks different for everyone, therapy provides us with a unique opportunity to learn more about ourselves- our identities, the people and places that have shaped us, and life experiences. I have deep respect for the courage it takes to show up for ourselves in this way and believe we can do so with curiosity and compassion. I believe in the transformative power of feeling deeply seen and valued in the therapeutic relationship and have personally experienced how it can help us cultivate better relationships with ourselves and others. Together, we may want to explore practices that have helped you survive thus far and experiment with new or different strategies. You may be looking to understand big or challenging feelings bubbling up while navigating life’s complexities. Or you may want to feel more rooted in yourself and your values and want to shift into a more embodied way of moving through the world. Whatever brought you here- I’ll support you every step of the way. We’ll work together to explore your unique needs, while honoring your strengths and innate wisdom. I don’t see myself as an “expert,” rather a skilled and caring partner, excited to support you as we navigate this work together. I strive to be anti-oppressive in my approach, paying special attention to the ways in which people are impacted by systems and -isms as well as my own positionality as a therapist. I completed my Bachelor’s in Gender & Women’s Studies and Sociology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and my Master’s in Social Work at Columbia University. I've been providing therapy in community-based settings for the past 5 years, working predominantly with female, trans, and nonbinary survivors of the criminal legal system and family court system as well as survivors of intimate partner violence/ domestic violence. I am especially passionate about supporting student activists and organizers on campus. My practice is neurodiversity-affirming and I have training in self-psychology and AEDP, a trauma-focused somatic-based modality. I am also completing training for internal family systems. Some of the theoretical perspectives that inform my work include attachment theory, relational approaches, liberation psychology, and narrative therapy. I am also deeply influenced by my abolitionist values. Therapy sessions with me typically occur weekly, although bi-weekly is possible for established clients. I am able to meet via telehealth exclusively (my practice is 100% telehealth with no in-person sessions). I am currently accepting insurance and am also an out-of-network provider. This means that you may be eligible to receive reimbursement through your insurance coverage. My full fee is $150 per 45-minute individual therapy session. If you are interested in learning more about what therapy with me might look like, please reach out to schedule a free 15-minute consultation by emailing here: margaret.horwitz@balancedmindofny.com
