Some of my clients struggle with substance use and are looking for support in abstinence or harm reduction. My clients experience relief as a result of our work addressing stress, challenging transitions, and general feelings of being stuck. I provide highly attuned, effective psychotherapy. I am psychoanalytically trained but integrate practical interventions to improve your daily functioning. The effectiveness of my work with clients has to do with the importance I place on connecting with them, making them feel seen and understood. The therapeutic alliance is everything. Together, we will look for connections between your experiences, feelings, thoughts, and behaviors, to help you move forward with greater ease. Please reach out. I offer a complementary twenty minute phone consultation, and I’d be happy to speak with you.
I help folks ages 18+ in NY, CT, OR, and FL who are struggling with depression, anxiety, relationships, and life transitions. I am a compassionate and nonjudgmental therapist who prioritizes creating a space in which my clients feel “held,” heard, and helped. My approach is personalized, collaborative, and tailored to each person’s unique needs and goals. My practice is strengths-based, trauma-informed, and utilizes a range of techniques including awareness of sensations in the body, narrative interventions, cognitive and dialectical behavioral therapies, and Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy. I believe everyone has the capacity to heal and that meaningful transformations take place in the context of safe and supportive relationships, when we feel seen, understood, and accepted unconditionally. Together, we will process your thoughts, feelings, and experiences to reduce suffering and increase joy, fulfillment, and success. The bottom line: I meet you where you are—with patience, warmth, kindness, and insight. I will assist in identifying and strengthening your own inner resources and wisdom, so we can work more effectively with challenges and pain on the road to a more satisfying life. You don’t have to do this alone.

As a faith-centered, trauma-informed therapist, I am committed to helping individuals find emotional healing, clarity, and peace. Therapy is a space where you don’t have to have everything figured out; it’s a place to slow down, reflect, and begin healing at your own pace. Are you looking for a supportive, safe space to process and share your concerns related to you or your child? Have you or your child tried to push through depression, codependency, low self-esteem, anxiety, or weak interpersonal relationships for a long time? Surrender your old story and prepare to embrace a new one. I know the feelings of loneliness, hopelessness, and being misunderstood and I know the value of having had a support system of those who believe in me when life gets hard. Fortunately, there is a way to change patterns by learning to think and feel differently. Through multiple techniques, I aspire to help change the way you may think and feel about yourself and the world, by identifying unhealthy thinking and helping you challenge them. Together we will work on shifting your mindset and making progress towards your personalized goals. MY BACKGROUND In addition to receiving my Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology at CUNY Queens College and Master of Science degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at LIU Post, I am a Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC). I am fluent in Spanish and English. I am excited to use my knowledge and skills to help children, teens, and adults who might be more comfortable with therapy in Spanish, through individual/group settings. While earning my Master’s degree, my interest in mental health and the counseling field grew. I couldn’t wait till the day that I would finally be able to do what I’ve wanted to do since I was a child. Upon graduating, I was an intern for a pediatric clinical psychologist. Being able to see the work and gaining some hands-on experience opened new doors for me and showed me an additional side of helping people. From there, I moved on to a clinic that specializes in treating those who suffer from addiction/substance use disorder which gave me the opportunity to use my counseling skills differently. I was able to meet each person as soon as they began their recovery journey, as I conducted their initial assessments and guided them in their recovery journey by helping them meet their individualized goals through individual and group sessions. The experience of being in the counseling field has been one of a kind, especially as a health care worker through the COVID-19 pandemic. All things are possible due to my strong commitment and interest in helping the community. MY APPROACH My goal is to empower my clients, as I wholeheartedly believe in the ability to change while learning to be gentle with oneself. Please allow me the opportunity to join you and your family on this journey to overcome obstacles and embrace accomplishments. An inner sense of peace may feel far from reach for you or your child, but I promise it’s available to your family. Are you ready? You’ve made it this far, now just reach out! If you would like to contact me or make an appointment, please email me at stephanie@trianglecognitivetherapy.com or call me at 516-208-3792 ext 29.
Are you working through trauma or a difficult life transition? Are you in relationship with a toxic or narcissistic person? Are you facing painful loss? Do you want to use principles of spirituality to strengthen you and answer life's deepest questions? Do you suffer from DID or dissociative disorder? For 30 years, I have guided people toward authentic ways of living and relating. Through many types of treatment, I help people to understand how traumatic life events change us and how to transform thoughts, feelings, and relationships. We focus on real actions you can take to find the power to reverse the effects of pain and trauma. I was educated at Cornell University and the University of Denver's School of Professional Psychology. I interned at the Albert Einstein Medical School and earned a post-doctoral fellowship at the world-renowned Menninger School of Psychiatry. I have highly specialized training in trauma, dissociative disorders and DID, spirituality, and toxic relationships. Many therapists look only at the surface. Instead, I will work deeply with you to see what and who causes you anxiety and depression, grief, sadness, emptiness and fear. We will take a thorough look back to see what and who has made an impact on you, positively and negatively. We will focus on actions to create a way to go forward with success and happiness.
College can intensify pressure to succeed, make the “right” choices, and hold it all together, often alongside anxiety, perfectionism, people pleasing, relationship issues, or concerns about food, body image, or control. I work with college students and young adults who appear high-functioning on the outside but feel overwhelmed, disconnected, or unsure of themselves on the inside. Together, we slow things down, identify patterns that keep you stuck, and build insight and skills that support real, lasting change. My approach is collaborative, thoughtful, and tailored to you as a whole person, not a set of symptoms. I hold the CEDS-C credential, the highest certification in eating disorder treatment, and support students whose anxiety or perfectionism shows up around food, body image, or self-worth. Therapy can be a space to pause, feel understood, and reconnect with what matters most, without having to pretend you’re fine or push through alone.
I aim to create a space where each person feels seen, understood, and safe enough to show up as they are. I specialize in supporting individuals navigating anxiety, depression, body image struggles, relationship distress, trauma, family dysfunction, and reproductive-related stress. I believe therapy works best when it feels human, honest, and safe enough to be real. For me, that means showing up as a real person too—usually with a big cup of coffee in hand—while bringing warmth, humor, and directness into our work. Together, we’ll validate what you’ve been through while noticing patterns that may be keeping you stuck.
You don’t have to go through it alone. Whether you're feeling overwhelmed by anxiety, navigating a major life change, coping with grief, or struggling in your relationships, I'm here to help. I work with teens, young adults, adults, seniors, and couples to create a space where you can feel heard, understood, and empowered to move forward. My approach is grounded in empathy and collaboration—I listen deeply, but I also gently challenge when needed to help guide you toward clarity and growth. You're the expert in your own life, and my goal is to support you in finding the answers and tools that already exist within you.

I get that college can be a big life transition and overwhelming at times. I specialize in anxiety and stress and help students who feel stuck in worry, overthinking, panic, or burnout. I can also help with the challenge of new relationships in college and managing old ones as well. I use and teach practical and energetic tools for nervous system regulation so you're not just talking about your stress - you're learning how to manage it in real time. My style is warm, compassionate, and collaborative. College is also a time when questions about sexual orientation and gender identity often become more present. I offer an affirming, supportive space to explore whatever is coming up for you - at your own pace. You don't have to navigate transition alone.
From the very beginning, with sensitivity and compassion, I strive to create a safe and nonjudgmental space in which you can express thoughts, feelings, dreams, and desires that you may feel unable to share elsewhere. I believe that constructive change occurs when we work collaboratively to develop insight into your current struggles; only then can we find ways to help you move forward. I have experience and interest in working with people with anxiety, trauma histories, and relationship issues. I enjoy working with creative people and those who wish to explore various aspects of their identities, including people who are LGBTQ+. Another of my strengths is in helping young people navigate the transition into adulthood. I have been practicing for more than ten years and I have specific training in psychodynamic therapy, mindfulness, and existentially oriented psychotherapy.
