Therapists for college students near New York University
I offer a collaborative, accepting, and reflective space where you can better understand yourself and what’s getting in the way of the life you want. I help people explore emotional and relational patterns with curiosity and self-compassion. Many of my clients come to me struggling with anxiety, depression, or challenges in their relationships. For some, these experiences have been present for a long time; for others, they feel new. I’m proud of the supportive environment I create, and I see it as the foundation of meaningful therapy. Our work is most effective when you feel safe enough to talk about what’s hard to say elsewhere and my primary goal is to help make that possible. My approach is grounded in the belief that real change comes through insight, self-awareness, and genuine human connection.
Life transitions can bring a mix of emotions - excitement, confusion, stress, and more. Between classes, relationships, identity shifts, and figuring out your future, it's a lot to take on. It is totally normal to experience all of the emotions at once, which can be difficult to understand and navigate. Opening up about what you are going through isn't always easy, but you don't have to do it alone. Whether you're looking for tools to manage stress or anxiety, make sense of tough emotions, or understand how your past is showing up in the present, therapy can help. Our work together will focus on what matters most to you. This is your space to be supported and heard.

I am a Licensed LMHC by the University of NYS, bilingual in both English and Spanish. I began my career in 1988 as a Licensed Clinical Psychologist at the University of Buenos Aires with a concentration in Psychoanalysis and Psychological Testing. I later became a Psycho-dramatist dealing with Psychodynamic interventions, as well as Behavioral techniques and Counseling. I have over 30 years of experience. 2. I began working for the National Argentinean Board of Education where I created, implemented and led psycho-dramatic seminaries, helping principals and teachers at intermediate and elementary schools. I was the primary contact for families and staff to facilitate fluid communication and good education for children. 3. As a Private Practice Professional, I developed treatment plans tailored specifically to my clients. I also supervised clinical cases, coordinated care and services such as interaction with patients, family members and physicians from hospitals to facilitate adequate transferring. I later developed strong psychological skills in coaching, consulting and counseling of top executives in corporations such as Telecom Argentina, Phillip Morris Argentina. I also have had extensive experience in counseling immigrants, especially unaccompanied minors and their available family members, for potential immigration relief. Most of these individuals do not speak English and the vast majority of them are unable to understand the complexity and intricacy of U.S. immigration laws even in their native Spanish. They may not even be aware that they have pending court cases, and may not appear at a scheduled hearing, which often leads to very serious consequences 4. I currently specialize as a Bilingual Psychotherapist targeting young people and adults who suffer from disorders such as PTSD, Major Depression, Psychosis and Anxiety. I also work with individual and family counseling, helping with diagnosis and crisis intervention, and serving parents with their own dynamics within the family. 5. I serve as PRN Clinician (Clinician called as needed) for BCFS working with unaccompanied asylum-seeking minors. BCFS Health and Human Services' Emergency Management Division specializes in emergency management, incident management, disaster response, public health & medical emergency response, mass care, medical sheltering and participating in planning for vulnerable populations..
Hello, I'm a mental health counselor licensed in the state of NY. I have worked in community mental health since 2015 in both clinic and primary care medical settings. My clients have presented a wide range of concerns, including: depression, anxiety, OCD, grief, substance abuse, capitalism, fascism, and adjustment to life after incarceration. Regardless of what issues bring you to therapy, I work from the assumption that YOU are not the problem. Rather, the situation is the problem, and we work together to transform it. This process often involves shifting your view, giving yourself grace, and deepening compassion for yourself. Before graduate school, I was a community organizer and activist addressing issues of social, ecological, and economic concern; my undergraduate degrees are in Community Health and Peace and Justice Studies. I often use a systems perspective to address problems, and I have experience working with trauma related to systemic harm and oppression. I strive to be supportive and curious in my role as a counselor. Working in this field means that I learn (and unlearn) every day. I am honored to walk alongside the people who invite me into their lives, and I do my best to offer honesty and compassion in a safe and respectful way. I value broad access to psychotherapy and gladly offer a sliding fee scale.

I am a licensed marriage and family therapist in the state of NY and CT. Many clients are confused when they hear my title and expect that I treat only marriages and families. Our name is a misnomer. I treat individuals, couples and families. My areas of focus with individuals are anxiety, panic, depression, adjustment disorders and trauma. I am an EMDR therapist and have certificates in DBT, TF-CBT and MBSR. I am also skilled in working with relationship difficulties. I consider myself to be very open-minded, accepting and empowering. I work with college students across New York State through video and phone therapy. Many students I see feel overwhelmed by anxiety, burnout, perfectionism, relationship stress, procrastination, or uncertainty about the future. Even high achieving students can feel stuck, exhausted, or disconnected from themselves. Sometimes you need space to vent, process, and feel heard. Other times, you want concrete strategies and a clearer path forward. I believe therapy should be both supportive and active, a place where you can talk honestly about what’s weighing on you while also building practical tools that help you feel better outside of sessions. As a Level 3 certified TEAM CBT therapist, I take a collaborative, goal oriented approach that helps students better understand the patterns keeping them stuck while building skills to manage emotions, improve confidence, and create meaningful change. The insights and strategies you gain in therapy can continue supporting you long after sessions end. If you’re ready to feel more grounded, capable, and connected, reach out for a free 15 minute consultation to see if we’d be a good fit.
College can be exciting and full of possibility, but it can also feel heavy. You might be juggling classes, friendships, family expectations, or questions about who you are and who you want to be. Maybe you’re feeling misunderstood, burned out, or carrying experiences from earlier in life that still show up in the present. Whatever you’re facing, you deserve a place where you don’t have to hold it all together. That’s where I come in. I offer a space where you can slow down, be honest, and explore what’s really going on beneath the surface. We’ll work together to make sense of your stress, your relationships, and the parts of your story that feel confusing or overwhelming. My goal is to help you build clarity, confidence, and coping skills that actually fit your life. If you’re curious about whether we’re a good match, you’re welcome to schedule a 15-minute consultation so we can figure it out together. You deserve support that feels grounding and real, and I’m here to help you get started.

I am a Postdoctoral psychologist who works with individuals that are hoping to improve their relationship with themselves and with others. I have experience working with adults across the lifespan experiencing a variety of difficulties. My area of specialty is with clients who have a history of disordered eating patterns, as well as a history of trauma. In therapy I encourage clients to be curious about their experiences, and my hope is that together we will deepen our understanding of how your past may be currently impacting your present. My approach with clients is warm, direct, and collaborative. I believe personal change occurs best when we notice how our experiences show up for us mentally and physically, so my work often involves active use of the mind-body connection. I use an integrated trauma-informed approach to treatment, which may include the use of somatic internal family systems, relational, psychodynamic, humanistic, feminist therapy and I incorporate techniques from CBT and DBT when appropriate. I provide embodied centered therapy for people struggling in their relationship with food, all with the goal for clients to foster awareness of self, connection with others, and to reconnect to their capacity for full-bodied engagement with the world. Additionally, I offer comprehensive psychological assessments that include both cognitive and personality assessment tools. These assessments are best suited for individuals who are wondering if they may have ADHD and can help to clarify any other mental health diagnostic questions. The results will be provided to you via a written report, which can be used to further your treatment or to justify accommodations to support your needs. I currently am only seeing clients virtually. Please reach out to connect and see if we’d be a good fit. I look forward to meeting you!

As a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW), I work with individuals and families navigating life across a variety of backgrounds, beliefs, and identities. I work particularly well with kids and teens (ages 5–17), college students, and adults, including LGBTQIA+ individuals, supporting them through anxiety, life transitions, relationship challenges, and the kind of stressful situations that can leave you feeling overwhelmed or unsure of where you belong. My personal experience in therapy has been profoundly transformative, and it’s that firsthand understanding of what genuine, effective care feels like that drives my commitment to providing it. If you're carrying the weight of difficult emotions, searching for your sense of purpose, or trying to build more meaningful relationships and you're not sure where to start, that's okay. We'll figure it out together. I believe healing happens when you feel safe enough to be honest, messy, and to move at your own pace, even when that feels like navigating a storm you can't see through. I don't come into sessions with a script; I come with genuine curiosity about you specifically, and a warm but grounded approach built around you, not a formula. Our work together is your umbrella in the storm, the light on the horizon, and, eventually, the clearing. I draw from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), adapting to what you need session to session. Together we'll build real insight, practical tools, and ways forward that feel sustainable and true to who you are. Before becoming a therapist, I spent four years working in community and supportive housing, where I served individuals navigating untreated and under-treated mental illness while trying to maintain stable lives. What struck me wasn't just how much they were struggling; it was how many barriers stood between them and the real support they needed. I became a therapist because I believe mental health care isn't a luxury, it's infrastructure. And everyone deserves access to it. Outside of the office, you'll find me on a yoga mat, at a Pilates class, or at a restaurant trying something I've never eaten before. I love spending time with my husband, and when we're not home, there's a good chance we're somewhere on the opposite side of the world. International travel isn't just a hobby for me, it's a reminder that there are as many ways to live a meaningful life as there are people living them, and that perspective finds its way into my work every single day.

Navigating OCD, anxiety, relationships, and life transitions can be emotionally and physically draining. There is little more frustrating than thinking and behaving in the same ways despite knowing they contribute to these issues and other debilitating symptoms. Therapy is a place to safely explore the thoughts, behaviors, and relationships that are interfering with living a more fulfilling and rewarding life. I am a trained OCD specialist and an active member of the International OCD Foundation (IOCDF). I have extensive experience working with college undergrad and graduate students from my time as a counselor at the University of Colorado, Boulder and at Bryant University. Working directly on a college campus has provided me with a unique understanding of the intersection between academics and mental health, as well as how to navigate many campus systems best. Currently, in my private practice, I work with college students from the many different colleges in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Colorado. The majority of clients that I work with are navigating Anxiety or OCD and Related Disorders. My clinical approach to therapy is grounded in ERP, ACT, and CBT. I believe therapy is built around compassion, respect, and trust. I look forward to connecting with you and exploring how we can collaboratively achieve your treatment goals. Send me an email, give me a call, or visit my website (www.smithlicsw.com) to set up an appointment. If you are struggling and are tired of trying to handle things alone, please do not hesitate to get in touch. * I provide telehealth services to clients in Massachusetts, New York, Rhode Island, Illinois, Vermont, and Colorado.*

I also have a special interest in working with individuals living with chronic illness and/or dealing with grief.
