Life is full of challenges, and sometimes we all need a little extra support to navigate them. Whether you're managing anxiety, working through a major life transition, navigating relationship difficulties, or looking to build confidence and resilience, I'm here to walk alongside you. My specialties span anxiety, stress management, relationship issues, self-esteem, and life coaching for adults, teens, and children alike. Alongside this, I bring dedicated expertise in supporting individuals with developmental disabilities, including autism, learning disabilities, and language disorders. At the heart of everything I do is a commitment to advocating for the whole person and equipping you with the tools and skills you need to grow. I look forward to being a compassionate, consistent partner in your healing journey and witnessing the strength and resilience that comes from doing this meaningful work together. In our work together, you can expect a warm, safe, and nonjudgmental space where you are truly seen and heard. Therapy here is person-centered and strengths-based, designed to feel empowering rather than overwhelming, and always tailored to your unique needs, goals, and lived experiences. Drawing from a range of evidence-based approaches, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), and psychoeducation, we'll work collaboratively to build meaningful skills and create lasting change. My style is flexible and collaborative, because no two people are alike, and your care shouldn't be either. My path to becoming a therapist grew was rooted in a simple but powerful belief that all people, regardless of age or background, sometimes need help and extra support. This belief has been shaped and strengthened across a range of settings, from higher education and hospitals to pediatric clinics, with each experience deepening my commitment to versatile, compassionate, and individualized care. Working across these environments, I've witnessed firsthand the profound impact that change can have, not only on an individual, but on everyone around them. That perspective informs every session. With an extensive background supporting individuals on the autism spectrum and experience across a broad range of developmental needs, I bring both professional expertise and genuine understanding to our work. No matter where you are in your journey, it is never too late to take that first step toward growth and healing. Outside of the therapy room, you'll find me staying active, whether that's out for a run or exploring new ways to move. I love trying new foods, discovering different cuisines, and getting creative through arts and crafts. These passions for movement, curiosity, and creativity carry over into how I approach my work with patients every day.
Our NYC-based practice specializes in anxiety and OCD treatment for college students and young adults. Many of the students we work with are high achievers who are used to pushing through, but are finding that anxiety, overthinking, or burnout are becoming harder to manage. This often shows up as getting stuck in your head, feeling overwhelmed by academic or social pressure, or getting caught in patterns of procrastination, perfectionism, or avoidance. For some, OCD or panic are a big part of the picture. College also brings a new level of independence, and managing academics, friendships, and daily life on your own can make these patterns feel more intense. Our approach is warm, structured, and grounded, focused on helping you understand what’s keeping you stuck, build practical skills, and feel more confident navigating this stage of life.

These include anxiety, depression, relationship conflicts, grief and loss, emotional struggles, trauma and PTSD, panic disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), and I believe healing happens when we feel seen, supported, and safe to explore growth and emotions in our own time. To achieve this, I take a strength-based, compassionate, and practical approach, allowing me to equip you with effective tools and skills to realize lasting mental wellness. Working together, you can expect an encouraging and nonjudgemental environment that uses evidence-based methods like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectal Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Exposure and Response Prevention Therapy (ERP). My goal is to help you develop healthy coping skills, deepen self-awareness, and create meaningful change through compassionate and collaborative care that is tailored to your unique goals and pace. I believe in the power of connection, collaboration, and evidence-based therapy, equipping me to be an effective and inspiring therapist. I look forward to walking alongside you as you build insight, resilience, and confidence in your journey to healing and achieving your goals. Having spent four years in the social work field, I saw first-hand how trauma impacts individuals and families, as well as how healing transforms lives. This diverse experience fueled my desire to become a therapist by deepening my passion to provide effective, empowering therapy that addresses the root causes of mental health struggles. I believe every person is capable of healing, which is why I bring empathy, curiosity, and genuine belief in each person’s potential to every session. When I'm not in the office, I’m most often spending time with friends or family. And when I’m not with loved ones, I enjoy being active – playing the piano, cooking, or discovering hidden gems in NYC!

College and graduate school can be exciting, but they can also feel overwhelming. You may be struggling with stress, anxiety, low mood, loneliness, relationship challenges, questions about your identity, or the pressure to keep up academically while managing everything else in your life. For some students, adjusting to life away from home, navigating independence, or recovering from difficult experiences such as trauma or past hardships can make this time especially challenging. I'm Kate Conway, a Mental Health Counselor Fellow (MHC-F) at Modern Talk, working under the clinical supervision of our licensed directors. Working with college students and young adults is at the heart of what I do — I have a deep understanding of the unique pressures this stage of life brings, and I know how much courage it takes to ask for support when you're in the middle of it. My approach is rooted in psychodynamic and relational therapy — I work with you to understand the patterns, experiences, and relationships shaping how you think, feel, and move through the world, while drawing on practical, skills-based tools when the work calls for it. Whether you're looking for support during a difficult period, trying to better understand yourself, or hoping to build healthier coping skills and relationships, I'm here. I offer a warm, collaborative, and nonjudgmental space where you can talk openly, gain insight, and develop the tools to navigate this chapter with greater confidence and resilience.
Therapy can offer a path to personal freedom. I want to know who you are, how you are, and how you want to be. My basic training is psychoanalytic, but an overall integrative approach fosters understanding of how life has shaped you, and how it plays out in current living situations, and especially how one's strengths can be brought to good use. I know that a person can change, evolve, develop meaningful relationships, first and foremost with themselves. I work collaboratively with individuals and couples to find the way to emotional liberation - always a deeply personal course. I welcome clients to my home-office in New York (Upper West Side) or via video conference.

I believe that all of us have had some challenges in our lives whether that translates to bigger traumas or smaller hardships. As a result of our challenges, we have beliefs about who we are and our place in the world. I use evidence-based practices including EMDR to identify and manage triggers that may manifest in fear, anxiety, and negative beliefs about who we are and what we deserve. Let me help you break free from your People-Pleasing, Perfectionist, and/or Procrastinating tendencies and find peace with being your authentic self.

You aren’t alone in your mental health struggles. As a mental health counselor for LGBTQIA folks, young adults, adults, and teens, I provide a gentle and collaborative environment for navigating issues relating to trauma, anxiety, depression, body image and shame, self-esteem, ADHD, OCD, identity exploration, family and life conflicts, low motivation, and emotional dysregulation. At all times, I believe in teamwork and accountability, remaining open to feedback and supportive in working toward your goals. I'm especially passionate about the concept of neuroplasticity (the brain's capacity to change, adapt, and form new neural pathways or ways of thinking) and humanism, which suggests we all naturally want to heal and self-actualize. I look forward to empowering your brain’s healing journey, fostering your personal growth, and navigating life's challenges in our work together. I'm dedicated to providing a safe, nonjudgmental space for vulnerability and self-expression. That’s why I take a warm, collaborative, and humorous approach to care, tailoring treatment to your unique needs. Your plan may include Dialectal Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), psychodynamic/relational, and somatic techniques to explore different aspects of yourself, practice coping strategies, regulate your nervous system, and develop a new relationship with difficult thoughts and feelings. My own mental health challenges, alongside supporting family members through their mental illnesses, shaped my path toward therapeutic care. These personal experiences deepened my commitment to destigmatizing mental illness and demystifying therapy by providing accessible care that makes people feel seen and heard. I bring this anti-oppressive and culturally responsive perspective to my practice now, ensuring care that is grounded in the understanding that cultural expectations, intergenerational patterns, shame, and systemic barriers can deeply influence how safe and comfortable someone feels in therapy. In my free time, I love immersing myself in the great outdoors, from swimming to camping beneath the stars. I also enjoy the arts: water coloring, watching a fantastic show or movie, and crafting!
