Therapists for college students near Durham, NC
Sometimes things happen that affect the way we see the world, the way we treat people, and the way we think about ourselves. This can happen to anyone. Sometimes, when life knocks you down, it can be tough getting back up. I help people get up. I currently specialize in relationship counseling not limited to intimate partner relationships, but also everyday interactions i.e., working, organizational, non-traditional, casual, mutually beneficial, and structural. I commonly assist with communication which is a major underlying issue found within relationship dysfunction. My preferred methodologies for treatment are Gestalt therapy, Autogenic Training, CBT, Existential Therapy, and grief counseling. My strengths lie in understanding, compassion, mutual respect, and experience. I am able to channel levels of comprehension in the following areas: Abandonment, depression, low self-esteem, jealousy, forgiveness, lack of trust, relationship strain, and everyday challenges. Other areas of proficiency include coping with life changes, communication problems, divorce and separation, emptiness, and intimacy-related issues.
Experience: Lise-Marie is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker Associate (LCSWA) in North Carolina. She obtained a master’s degree in social work (MSW) with a certificate in trauma-responsive care from the University of Kentucky and a Bachelor of Arts in psychology/gender & women’s studies from Grinnell College. Lise-Marie trained at Coastal Horizons Center conducting Intensive Outpatient Therapy for individuals struggling with substance disorder, as well as at The Open Gate/Domestic Violence Shelter and Services, providing client advocacy and empowerment services. She has worked with clients from various cultures, life experiences, and identities who struggled with depression, anxiety, PTSD, complex trauma, domestic violence/abuse, and psychotic disorders. She also volunteered as COO to launch The Parasol Cooperative; a not-for-profit organization dedicated to protecting life through innovative technology. More than just my work: The dance floor is my personal sanctuary; I am an avid Latin dancer and an aerial acrobat with a decade of performance and choreography experience. Dance has taught me that beauty and freedom await when we embrace the unexpected and grow through adversity — just like my favorite quote says: “Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass. It’s about learning how to dance in the rain.” ~Vivian Greene Client Focus: Adults 18+, Women, LGBTQ+, Couples, Veterans Types of therapy: CBT, DBT, Art Therapy, Internal Family Systems, Emotionally Focused, Strengths-Based, Mindfulness-Based, Gestalt, Jungian, Feminist, Holistic, Trauma-Responsive Care Issues: (Standard) Anxiety, depression, PTSD, complex trauma, addiction (Specialties) Identity- and gender-affirming, women’s issues, dissociation, suicidal ideation, domestic violence/abuse, relationship issues, co-dependency, grief, bullying
At Lifeologie Counseling Raleigh & Durham, we bring creative solutions to stuck problems. Our first mission is to help you find the right therapist for your unique needs. We want you to get connected with the right therapist for you, and our creative, collaborative team of counselors work together to help you navigate the complexities of your life. We offer multiple specialties and therapy styles for individuals, couples, families and students of all ages.
I want counseling to be a positive and collaborative experience for everyone who steps through my door. I primarily work with adults and young adults to address a variety of symptoms, including ADHD, autism, anxiety, depression, intellectual disabilities, OCD, substance use, and more. Together, we will work toward embracing your differences and using your strengths to help accomplish your goals. I use an eclectic approach to counseling, meaning that I use methods from a variety of disciplines based on what will benefit each unique person. Some of the disciplines that I often draw from include CBT, DBT, ACT, and Motivational Interviewing. You are the expert in your own life, I am here to help you reach your full potential and achieve your goals. My ultimate goal is to make you feel safe, comfortable, and free from judgement during our sessions. Creating a space where you can be your true, authentic self is one of my top priorities. I believe that sessions should be a collaborative space full of honesty, genuineness, and even some humor at times.
My practice offers psychological assessments for children, students, families and adults. We focus on finding answers to your questions and help you figure out why things are challenging for you and then come up with a game plan to help you build on your strengths and work with your challenges. We offer all kinds of evaluations, but the most common concerns we receive are learning disabilities, ADHD and questions about the autism spectrum. We would love to connect with you and see if we can help you get some answers and next steps.
Whether you're running on empty, navigating identity and belonging, or simply ready to stop circling the same patterns, you are welcome here. I work with adults ready for authentic connection and meaningful change: LGBTQ+ people, people of color, women, and all intersections of these identities. I love working with folks exploring spirituality and spiritual practice, especially those who don't connect with or have been harmed by faith institutions. Presence, liberation, and deep connection are at the heart of my approach. This includes how we relate to ourselves, our identities, and the world around us. I pay deep attention to your story, and that story lives within a dynamic context. I move at your pace, and I'm here to help you see what's in the way, and what's already fabulous about you. If something here resonates, reach out. You don't need to have it figured out! Curiosity is enough. So is exhaustion. We can chat and explore whether working together is a next right move for you. Taking that first step is its own act of courage, and I don't take it lightly. I offer telehealth throughout North Carolina and look forward to connecting.
That fake smile is exhausting, and you’re sick of pretending that everything’s fine. On the surface, it seems like you have it all together. But all too often, you’re counting the hours until you get to pull the covers back over your head. I’ve been there, and I get it. You might be coming to therapy because of anxiety, burnout, relationship strain, or a persistent feeling of working incredibly hard just to stay afloat. Or, you may be watching yourself engage in the same behaviors over and over again...even though you know you are digging yourself into a deeper hole. As a licensed psychologist, I am most known for my work in weight management and health psychology over the last 18 years, including my former role as the CEO of a small behavioral health hospital. While weight and eating concerns may bring my clients in, our work focuses on the deeper emotional and relational patterns driving those struggles. If you are looking for a practical, no-nonsense approach to therapy, we could be a fit. Although some of my clients have been with me for years (there are always new layers to uncover), my goal is to give you the confidence to continue independently once you’re taking more of those steps on your own. Vibe checks are great - just schedule a free consult!

PEACE IS POSSIBLE. My name is Nan Ford, LCAS, LCMHC. I believe all people deserve to be treated with dignity and respect. I treat those who are struggling with stress, anxiety, isolation, substance use, and communication issues. My therapeutic orientation is grounded in trauma-informed care, Mindful-Cognitive-Behavioral therapy, Inner Child/Parts work. Our work together will be complemented with evidence-based mindful meditations for relaxation of stress and anxiety.
Therapy is not always easy. But that doesn't mean it is without joy. In therapy, we get to come to an appreciation of both joy and sorrow that are the consequences of living a fully human life. Through appropriate challenge and support, we are able to expand the range of our humanity and our participation in the world. My approach is grounded in brief psychodynamic models of treatment. I believe that therapy can help make us conscious of the adjustments we have made to cope with our life circumstances and can shine a light on new possibilities towards greater authenticity. I continually seek to improve my own utility as a therapist, and I read voraciously towards that end. My understanding of psychology, sociology, and social work provide not only a foundation for understanding client struggles, but also a basis from which to conceptualize growth and solutions.
As a dedicated clinician specializing in anxiety, depression, and obsessive thinking, I offer compassionate support and evidence-based practices to guide individuals toward reaching their full potential. With a deep commitment to fostering a safe and empathetic environment, I aim to empower clients as they navigate life and discover inner resilience. My therapeutic approach is rooted in the belief that each person's journey is unique, and I tailor treatment to meet the specific needs and goals of my clients. Through a blend of cognitive-behavioral therapy, mindfulness practices, and various other therapeutic approaches, I work with individuals to explore underlying issues, thought patterns, and work to uncover the strengths and resources within you to promote lasting change and emotional resilience. In sessions, you can expect a space where your experiences are honored, and your voice is heard. Whether you are seeking short-term support for a life event or a deeper exploration of your emotional landscape, I am committed to providing support every step of the way. I welcome you to reach out and schedule a consultation.
I have current availability and will respond to inquiries within one business day. We all struggle at times to cope with the difficulties of life. Together we can create a toolbox of strategies for coping with life’s stressors. As a counselor, I strive to affirm all identities and incorporate an awareness of social and cultural factors that may impact your lived experience. In addition to traditional talk therapy, I offer expressive arts therapy, which allows for processing, experiencing, and integrating therapeutic work on a deeper level. In our work together, I aim to create a safe space where you can feel truly heard and supported in your goals. I am passionate about helping people lead a healthier, more fulfilling life. I invite you to reach out to schedule a free 15-minute initial consultation to help in deciding whether we will be a good fit for your needs.
