Therapists for college students near 27705
I help teenagers and adults who notice behaviors or tendencies about themselves that aren’t helpful. I specialize in navigating and overcoming traumas, such as wounds from childhood and/or religious experiences. Maybe you often feel out of place, like you’re a burden, or so overwhelmed that you’re starting to lose motivation. I want to help you break free from the opinions of others, from self doubt, or the fear of being “too much.” You are capable of knowing your worth and being seen and loved by the people around you. My goal as a therapist is to develop a relationship with you different from any other you’ve had in your life. My values are trust, honesty and vulnerability. What I find unique about the therapeutic relationship is that I can show up in your life unlike anyone else, free of expectations, never being mad at you, and never once judging.

As a warm and person-centered therapist, I believe in partnership with a client to meet them where they are and work towards their goals together. Life can be hard and circumstances can feel heavy, but you've made the first (and often hardest) step to lightening the load and achieving your goals. I specialize in depression, anxiety, mood disorders, and navigating life stressors, as well as other mental and behavioral concerns. I utilize a blended strength-based treatment approach, using but not limited to: cognitive behavioral therapy, solution-focused therapy, motivational interviewing, and behavior modification.
We are a team of Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselors (LCMHC), Licensed Clinical Social Workers (LCSW), and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists (LMFT) that share the goal of creating a welcoming and safe space to explore mental health concerns, develop tools and resources, and provide support in becoming the you that you aspire to be. We chose the name Tides, not only for our shared love of the beach but also because in life "tides" or circumstances often change and we strive to be agents of positive changing tides in the lives of people we serve. Our focus is to help individuals, couples, and families heal, energize, and become aware of their inner strengths. We achieve this by providing a neutral safe space, listening to your concerns, and customizing a therapy treatment plan. We promise to be there for you every step of your journey. Our goal is to help you grow from your struggles, heal from your pain, and move forward to where you want to be in your life.

Hello and welcome! My counseling practice focuses primarily on work with women, including teens. I specialize in counseling with women who are experiencing disordered eating and body image issues, anxiety, depression, life transitions, and relationship concerns. Whether you are experiencing a specific concern, struggling with self-esteem or perfectionism, are feeling anxious or depressed, or seeking more connection with others, counseling is a courageous step toward leading a more fulfilling, joyful life. It would be an honor to guide and support you on your journey to self-discovery and healing.
Hello! At Discovery Counseling, I approach counseling from an individual perspective. I believe everyone is in the process of discovering themselves. I come alongside you in this process to support and act as a guide. I believe you are the expert on you. I help to assess your strengths and areas of growth then develop a plan to use those to improve your life. I enjoy working with individuals who want to find out who they are and where they want to go. I specialize in working with people going through major life transitions, desire to have a stronger sense of identity, and asking serious questions about their view of life. Because of this, I specialize in working with those who are in the LGBTQ+ community, Gen Z and Millennials, and those impacted by major changes such as moving away from home, divorce, job changes, and more. Further, I work closely with those going through spiritual questioning, no matter their faith. Overall, I am looking to work with anyone who desires to develop a better sense of who they are and where they want to go. I look forward to hearing from you and help you discover yourself.
I enjoy working with adolescents and young adults on issues such as depression, anxiety, relationships, life transitions, self-esteem, and grief. I typically use Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy strategies when working with clients. My therapeutic alliance with clients is one of unconditional positive regard and acceptance. I encourage clients to use their therapy sessions to focus on themselves and their needs at that time. Together, we will develop a plan to address whatever issues are keeping them stuck in an uncomfortable place.
College can be one of the most exciting and overwhelming seasons of your life. You may be adjusting to being away from home, navigating new relationships, questioning your major, managing academic pressure, or quietly carrying anxiety, depression, or past trauma that hasn’t had space to heal. On the outside, it can look like everyone else is handling it just fine — but inside, you might feel stuck, exhausted, unmotivated, or unsure of who you’re becoming. If you’re in that space, you’re not alone. And you don’t have to work through it by yourself. I work with college students who are in the middle of real life transitions — identity shifts, relationship changes, academic stress, family expectations, grief, trauma, and the quiet weight of self-doubt. Depression during college often doesn’t look like “sad all the time.” It can show up as procrastination, isolation, low motivation, difficulty focusing, or feeling disconnected from the person you used to be. Trauma can show up in relationships, in trust, in sleep, or in how hard you are on yourself. Together, we slow things down. We make sense of what’s happening beneath the surface. We identify patterns that are keeping you stuck and build practical tools that help you feel more steady, confident, and grounded. My approach is collaborative and straightforward. I don’t believe in sitting back silently while you struggle to find words. We talk. We process. We challenge unhelpful thoughts. We work through emotional blocks. I integrate approaches such as CBT, trauma-informed care, and other evidence-based strategies to help you build resilience while honoring your story. My goal is not just symptom relief — it’s helping you understand yourself better so you can move forward with clarity and confidence. College is a time of growth — but growth can feel uncomfortable. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, numb, stuck, or unsure about your direction, therapy can be a space to reset and regain momentum. You deserve support as you figure out who you are and who you want to become. If you’re ready to take the next step, I invite you to Request an Initial Appointment and begin therapy. You don’t have to wait until things get worse. Let’s work together to help you regain balance, rebuild confidence, and move through this season with strength.
I welcome and affirm all expressions of identity by treating every client with respect and unconditional positive regard. My practice is LGBTQ supportive and affirming 🏳️🌈. I do my best to hold a non-judgmental space where my clients feel safe to share their thoughts and feelings without fear or judgement. I believe that the client-therapist relationship is foundational to effective therapy. You and I will work together to understand and identify problems and find actionable solutions that fit your unique situation.
About Many of us go through life with low self-esteem believing that we're not enough, less than, or undeserving of any good thing. We wonder why good things don't happen for us, or why we can't have healthy relationships like others do. We feel guilt and shame for the things we've done (or not done) and we don't know how to believe in ourselves anymore. I am here to help you through these unhealthy beliefs and help you rediscover your true worth and purpose in this life. I believe in using a collaborative approach in helping my clients. I use evidence-based practices, including CBT, DBT, Mindfulness, and Motivational Therapy. I also use my Christian counseling experiences I am supportive, yet direct with empathy, compassion and help you address the barriers in their life that are causing you pain and distress. I started my education later in my adult life, and believed I had arrived late to the game. But I found that life experience paired with my own belief system, allowed me the opportunity to view life's challenges through a unique lens, and because of that I am non-judgmental and empathetic towards people who are struggling with the hurts life has dealt them.
My name is Laura Fisher-Caudill (she/her), and as a trauma therapist and human, I am excited to get to know you. As a highly sensitive, empathetic person with big emotions, I love helping other empathetic humans heal from past trauma. As someone who’s experienced mental health struggles and complex trauma throughout my life experience, it’s been incredibly rewarding to provide a space where people can create meaningful connections between their past experiences and current realities and work towards healing from past trauma to find their own inner control, wisdom, and growth in the process. I am deeply committed to helping clients I work with find their inner strength, resilience, and the tools they need to heal from the past and create a life filled with purpose, joy, and fulfillment. My goal is to empower others in learning effective tools for navigating emotional distress and unburdening the pain of past trauma to create their lives worth living! My clients often describe themselves and their experiences as: Cycle breakers in their family systems. They often have lived experience as the “golden child” or “scapegoat” in their family of origin and may struggle with boundary setting or understanding the impact of childhood dynamics on their relationships and trauma responses in the present. Adult children of parents who were/are emotionally immature and/or have narcissistic behavior patterns. Complex traumatic experiences throughout their lifetimes, such as emotional invalidation or emotional trauma/neglect, criticism, and/or judgment by caregivers, being parentified early in life or expected (either overtly or covertly) to caretake emotional needs of their parents and not have needs of their own, being placed in the role of peacekeeper in their family system, and may have experienced sexual, physical, or other forms of abuse as well. Living with a chronically dysregulated nervous system due to experiences of complex traumatic events throughout their lives, often beginning at a very young age. Somatic, or body based, symptoms of complex trauma, such as chronic pain, illness, stored emotions in hips, shoulders and other areas of the physical body. Neurodivergent, specifically being highly sensitive to sensory experiences, emotionally intense, empathetic humans who identify as being gifted and/or having ADHD. Members of the LGBTQIA+ community.
