Therapists for college students near University of Pittsburgh
I'm Sandi Christiansen (she/her/hers), a Licensed Professional Counselor through the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, a Certified Clinical Anxiety Treatment Professional (CCATP), and a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP). I obtained my undergraduate degree in Psychology and Sociology at Saint Joseph's University, and my Master's in Clinical & Counseling Psychology at Chestnut Hill College with a specialization in Child & Adolescent Counseling. I have been licensed since 2010, and have been working in the field of mental health and substance use disorders for almost 15 years. I recognize the vulnerability and strength it takes to decide to start going to therapy and begin making changes. Whether you're a college student struggling with friendships, a young adult managing life and its stressors, a parent of a child experiencing anxiety...it's hard to know where to start. I'm here to help you navigate! I utilize strength-based cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), with elements of a psychodynamic approach (touching on attachment, relationship, and behavior patterns through the lens of object relations theory). I maintain unconditional positive regard for my clients, and offer what I hope will become a safe space for people to talk about difficult things. Together, we will set achievable, measurable goals for your future as well as gaining a better understanding of your past. I pride myself on my professionalism and experience, but most importantly I have been told over and over again that I am relatable, approachable, and non-judgmental. I tell my clients all the time -- I am the expert in the field, but you are the expert on your own life. If any of this resonates with you, we might be a good fit to work together. Please feel comfortable reaching out to set up a complimentary 15 minute consultation. I look forward to hearing from you and helping you find your next step.

Becoming a clinical psychologist grew out of my lifelong wish to help people lessen the emotional and psychological pain that any of us can be susceptible to. I provide a place where people can feel listened to and understood. Feeling heard by someone else can often be the first step to better understanding one’s own feelings and others. Once I understand your issues, I utilize psychological treatments that incorporate the latest findings from cognitive psychology, neuropsychology, neuroscience, and modern psychoanalysis. These treatments are now helping more people find effective ways to meet their emotional needs and have fulfilling and enjoyable lives and relationships. If you are interested in learning more about ways that psychological treatment can reduce your emotional distress and help you to have the life you want to live, please do not hesitate to contact me to arrange for an initial consultation.

Choosing therapy is a bold step towards positive change. My goal as a therapist is to support you as you move towards personal and relational healing while providing unconditional positive regard, structure for exploration, and nervous system support for staying present with the difficult emotions and re-grounding afterwards. I believe that you make sense and that you are an expert on your own experience. My practice is person-centered and celebrates queer and trans lives, poly and kink relationships, neurodivergent experience, and health at all sizes. I strive to practice cultural humility about experiences, histories, and cultural oppressions that fall outside my own. I use tools from trauma-informed modalities of IFS, EMDR, and Somatic Experiencing. I am open to working with adults, adolescents, and children of families that are willing to commit to family sessions. I enjoy working with people who experience multiple marginalizations and cultural oppressions, artists, writers and activists. I empower individuals to discover their resiliency, harness the energy of their anxiety in productive ways, and better manage negative unhelpful worry thinking. Anxiety results in the space between overestimating the probability of danger AND underestimating your ability to cope with it. My philosophy for healing is that everyone has strength and resiliency to cope with much more than they could imagine, and through therapy you discover those strengths and how to implement them. I have worked with hundreds of clients in 15+ years as a licensed therapist. Having been an active duty military spouse for 20 years, I have been licensed in 6 states and have vast experience providing therapy to diverse populations in numerous settings with various needs. This led me to a path of focusing more on primary anxiety conditions (such as general anxiety, panic, phobias) to secondary anxiety (from ADHD, autism, sensory integration) to justifiable external stressors (for example, societal, environmental, financial). I use research-proven Virtual Reality Immersion Therapy (VRIT), biofeedback, mindfulness, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) techniques, Solution-Focused Therapy techniques, and other evidence based models to help clients face fears and anxieties in customized imaginal and constructed virtual environments while teaching the coping skills of mindfulness, thought restructuring, and regulating body sensations. I offer weekend and evening hours, as well as the option for secure messaging and video contact between sessions for established clients. Our practice specializes in treating eating disorders in young adults, offering a compassionate and evidence-based approach rooted in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). We provide individualized care for clients struggling with anorexia, bulimia, binge eating disorder, and other disordered eating behaviors. We also work with Anxiety and Mood disorders. Clients learn to identify and challenge distorted thoughts around food, body image or other presenting stressors. DBT techniques are used to build emotional regulation, distress tolerance, mindfulness, and interpersonal effectiveness. The integrative approach supports young adults in developing healthier coping strategies, improving self-esteem, and fostering lasting recovery in a supportive and nonjudgmental environment.
Resolute Counseling aims at improving mental health through the promotion of social health, physical health, and spiritual health. We make every effort to collaborate with community organizations to help connect people with additional supports. All four of our counselors have a passion for working with young adults and college students. All of us have been through college (both undergraduate and graduate school) and understand the stressors students experience.
At West Shore Wellness, we provide counseling for a variety of different issues and use a variety of different modalities. Our therapists enjoy working with college students and young professionals to assist them through difficult transitions, academic challenges, relational challenges, family struggles as well as pre-marital counseling. Whatever your need, we usually have a therapist who is able to work with you as you begin your journey.

It is the mission of Morris Cognitive Behavioral Consulting to meet clients where they are when they enter treatment and help them come to a place of radical acceptance of their current circumstances. Dr. Morris has an interactive, direct style that, at times, feels more like coaching than traditional psychotherapy. She focuses on enhancing a client’s motivation, as well as helping them find the balance between acceptance and change. Their goal is to locate the “gray area” between extremes in thinking, emotions, and behavior. It is these extremes, which lead to common problems in living, relationship difficulties, or severe mental and behavioral symptoms. Dr. Morris believes in doing more than helping individuals reduce troubling symptoms; she wants to help clients break free from ineffective behavioral patterns and, more importantly, truly heal. She is committed to teaching clients how to stop emotions from controlling their lives. She strives to help clients overcome barriers that keep them stuck in negative behaviors, life patterns, or relationships that hinder their ability to reach their desired goals and live fully. Dr. Morris channels her unrelenting energy, straightforward style, and radical genuineness to help shift clients into resolving these barriers and ineffective patterns. She hopes to enable clients to become more skillful in their everyday experience so they can be more effective at reaching their goals while, ultimately, creating lives worth living. Dr. Morris specializes in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) interventions, strength-based approaches that focus specifically on practical coping skill acquisition, which are uniquely tailored to each client's individual goals. She offers a range of evidence-based therapy, group, and consulting services to children, adolescents, adults, families, schools, and organizations.

Then we throw in friendships, romantic relationships, careers and family dynamics and we can get overwhelmed so easily. In therapy we work together to find clarity.
