Therapists for college students near University of Pittsburgh
Hi! I'm Julie Rodgers, Licensed Professional Counselor. I have much experience working in college counseling centers and am passionate about supporting young adults successfully navigate their college experience (academic, socially, emotionally, financially). I am trained in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) to increase mindfulness/acceptance and increase skills to improve emotion regulation, interpersonal skills, and distress tolerance. I incorporate other approaches as well and like to keep session stimulating and fun with art-based activities! I am trained in trauma-informed yoga and incorporate mind-body experience to process traumatic events. Our center runs DBT groups weekly, so that is a wonderful option in addition to individual therapy for those looking for group connection. I look forward to meeting you!
Therapy is more about building new associations, making new, healthier default pathways. It is almost as if therapy is taking your two-lane dirt road and building a four-lane freeway alongside it. The old road stays, but you don’t use it much anymore. Therapy is building a better alternative, a new default. And that takes repetition, and time, honestly, it works best if someone understands how the brain changes. This is why understanding how trauma impacts our health is essential for everyone.” ~ Dr. Bruce Perry I am a licensed professional counselor with over 10 years of experience in various mental health settings such as Outpatient facilities, Inpatient hospitals, Crisis Center, but mainly in public and private alternative school settings. Life will become more meaningful and fulfilling when the individual aligns with a purpose that feels authentic and valuable.

I have 8 years of experience as a therapist for children/teens, adults, and families. I have worked in out-patient, school-based, in-home, and community settings. For individual and family therapy, I use a client-based, relational approach that focuses on positive communication, mutual respect, and active listening skills. I enjoy collaborating with clients on goals. I have a strong background in trauma and in providing services for at-risk teens and young adults. I offer counseling for mood and personality disorders, grief and loss, separation/divorce and family issues, as well as for medically based diagnoses, such as ADHD, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, and cancer.
