Therapists for college students near New York, NY
Past experiences may be affecting how you see yourself, relate to others, or move through the world. Healing is possible. Many come to therapy feeling weighed down by trauma, difficult relationships, low self-esteem, or unresolved childhood experiences. You may be functioning on the outside while feeling stuck, disconnected, or unsure of yourself on the inside. Many of the adults I work with struggle with trusting themselves or others, setting boundaries, or feeling worthy of care and connection. Therapy can help you build insight, strengthen your sense of self, and develop healthier, more fulfilling relationships. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) who works with people seeking deeper understanding, healing, and meaningful change. My approach is warm, exploratory, and open, with an emphasis on creating a space where you feel safe enough to be honest and work at your own pace. My style is collaborative and nonjudgmental, grounded in respect. Beginning therapy takes courage. If you’re ready to explore your experiences in a supportive and compassionate environment, I invite you to reach out.

I am passionate about helping people discover their inner strength and resilience. With a master's in social work from New York University and as licensed social worker since 2005, I've had the privilege of supporting individuals from diverse backgrounds in various settings, including non-profits, LGBT organizations, and schools. My therapeutic approach blends a strengths-based and psychodynamic perspective with cognitive-behavioral techniques allowing me to tailor our sessions to your unique needs and aspirations. Whether you're facing challenges, fraught relationships, seeking personal growth, or simply navigating life's transitions, my goal is to provide a supportive space where you can explore, learn, and thrive. Together, we'll work towards cultivating a sense of ease and confidence as you're on your path forward. I'm here to support you every step of the way.
The LGBTQ+ population from youth to adults navigate the challenges of being ones-self and accessing safe housing, affirming healthcare, integrating into social circles of family and friends, feeling safe to exist in all spaces they enter, challenging the expectations to be the educator of their identities, and even policing themselves for their own safety and other people’s comfort. I will provide a safe space for folks to show up as themselves, identify concretely their goals and aspirations, consider how they can dictate their environment to become their sanctuary, and take small steps towards becoming their most authentic self. I want to support my fellow LGBTQAI+ folks of all varying intersecting identities. I aim to use a strength-based integrative approach including aspects of Psychodynamic, Cognitive Behavioral, Narrative, and Mindfulness-Based interventions to individualize your sessions, externalize your challenges, and help you see your circumstances in different ways. As your therapist, I will allow space for you to elicit exactly what you’re experiencing and what you hope for during therapy and beyond. I want you to leave sessions feeling empowered to continue to invest in yourself, know you have the ability to move beyond your limits, and feel and see that change is possible. I'm ready to be on this journey with you.

As a clinician with a decade of experience as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and a doctorate in clinical psychology, I bring a thoughtful, integrative, and person-centered approach to therapy. My work is grounded in a humanistic theoretical orientation, and I approach each therapeutic relationship with warmth, respect, and curiosity. I strive to create a space where clients feel genuinely heard and supported in making sense of their experiences, in their own words. While I prioritize a person-centered lens, I also draw from evidence-based practices such as CBT, DBT, and ACT, tailoring treatment to meet each client’s unique needs. I am deeply committed to multicultural awareness, equity, and advocacy in clinical practice. I have extensive experience working with individuals who are BIPOC, LGBTQIA2S, and first-gen. My approach is affirming, identity-conscious, and culturally responsive, with an emphasis on honoring the complexity and intersectionality of each client’s lived experience. In addition to English, I am fluent in Mandarin and Shanghainese, and I welcome clients who may benefit from therapy in their native language. It is an honor and a privilege to support individuals in navigating life transitions, identity development, and emotional well-being with care, openness, and collaboration. Are you feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or uncertain about what’s going on internally? Whether you’re wrestling with academic pressures, struggling to understand why certain tasks feel harder than they should, or wondering if there’s more to why you feel anxious or disconnected, I’m here to help you find clarity and answers. I’m a psychologist in New York City with a focus on assessments that go beyond surface-level challenges, helping students like you understand who they are and what they need to succeed. Many of the students who find testing helpful are motivated, thoughtful, and want to know themselves better. They may feel like no matter how hard they try, something still feels off, or they feel out of sync with others. If you’ve been wondering if there’s a reason behind your difficulties with focus, social interactions, anxiety, or even low moods, psychological testing can help reveal what’s happening beneath the surface. I work especially well with students who want a deeper understanding of themselves, so they can navigate college life, relationships, and personal goals with confidence. The results of testing shouldn’t feel like another test to understand. My approach is about making sense of what’s going on in a clear, accessible way. My goal is for you to feel equipped to take on college – and life – with greater self-awareness and practical tools that work for you.
Our life experiences are unique, yet we share similar traits that enable us to relate to each other at the deepest level. In that space, change can be nurtured in a warm yet challenging enough manner, to give you the tools that you need to show up in your community, family, school and work with joy and confidence. Whether you are struggling with cultural issues, body image and identity questions, or adjustment to the specific challenges of a learning environment, I invite you to reach out. You are not alone.
Hi ! I am Samah, a South Asian therapist originally from India. I specialize in working with students, including international students, people of color, and immigrants who are navigating not just academics, but identity, belonging, and the pressure to succeed. As an immigrant myself, I understand how cultural expectations can affect us and manifest as beliefs, patterns, and behaviors that may not serve us; therefore, we will navigate these concerns together in a way that allows you to uphold your cultural values while building a strong sense of self. I understand what it’s like to begin this journey away from family, balancing the guilt of leaving loved ones behind while trying to build a new life. It can feel like you’re living between two worlds: holding onto your cultural identity while also trying to adapt, grow, and find your place in a new environment. This experience can bring up feelings of isolation, anxiety, and self-doubt, even when things seem to be going well on the outside. In our work together, I aim to create a space where you feel seen, understood, and supported as your full self. Whether you’re struggling with anxiety, self-esteem, academic pressure, or questions around identity and family, we can explore these challenges at your pace and help you feel more grounded and confident in who you are becoming.
College, graduate school, and early adulthood can be exciting, but they can also feel overwhelming. You may be struggling with stress, anxiety, low mood, loneliness, relationship challenges, questions about your identity, or the pressure to keep up academically while managing everything else in your life. For some students, adjusting to life away from home, navigating independence, or recovering from difficult experiences such as trauma, sexual assault, or substance use concerns can make this time especially challenging. At Modern Talk, we specialize in working with college students, graduate students, and emerging adults. Our clinicians understand the unique demands of this stage of life and have extensive experience helping students navigate both everyday stressors and more complex emotional challenges. Several members of our team have worked within university counseling settings, including New York University's Wellness Exchange, supporting students through academic, social, and personal transitions. Whether you're looking for support during a difficult period, trying to better understand yourself, or hoping to build healthier coping skills and relationships, we're here to help. We provide a warm, collaborative, and nonjudgmental space where you can talk openly, gain insight, and develop tools to navigate challenges with greater confidence and resilience.
Life can be overwhelming. The challenges of living with social isolation, emotional pain, grief, anxiety and depression can prevent us from living the life we desire. The effects of trauma can be unbearable and intolerable and can affect both the individual and those around them. Together, we'll improve your ability to express your feelings, reflect on your reactions and behaviors, develop life skills and gain awareness that can lead you to a more effective and full-filling life. My approach is validating and collaborative - Warm, down-to-earth and non-intimidating, I use DBT, EMDR and DBR to best address the needs of my clients. Therapy is a powerful tool for reflection and change. Whether working with teens or adults, my approach is insightful and exploratory, helping clients uncover unconscious patterns. Sometimes, we become stuck in painful or unsatisfying ways of being and need a safe space to learn, heal, and grow. I commonly work with issues such as anxiety, depression, ADHD, trauma, life transition, and relationships. In our work together, I help clients understand the impact of past experiences on the present, with a focus on the here-and-now. I also incorporate breathing and mindfulness practices to help manage everyday stress.

I am a Certified Gestalt Psychotherapist and Neurofeedback Practitioner. To learn more about me, please take a look at my website or contact me directly. I look forward to hearing from you!
Therapy can deepen your capacity for love, trust, and connection — with yourself and with others. I’ve seen it ease depression, anxiety, and shame; strengthen self-esteem; and help people become more resilient during life’s ups and downs. Most of all, it can bring forward a truer, more authentic self. Therapy is a collaborative process. You speak, and I listen closely — for what’s said and what lies beneath the surface — helping you see what may be getting in the way of a more fulfilling life. As Carl Rogers wrote: “The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change.” I’ve found that to be true. Patients find it helpful to explore childhood, memories that bubble up, dreams, feelings, fears, wishes — whatever arises. Our aim is an understanding of your inner world that leads to meaningful action & choice. With couples, I help you listen more clearly & break entrenched patterns. Everyone longs to be seen and heard & I'll help you arrive at that place. As a therapist and writer, I’m inspired to help each patient take hold of their narrative — understanding where they’ve come from & where they’d like to go. As we get to know one another, I tailor my style to your personality and needs. Your feedback is always encouraged. Email me to schedule a consultation & see if we’re a good fit. The Loom was created as a space that recognizes the interconnectedness between an individual’s struggles and their relationships. Life’s challenges can impact our relationships, and in turn, our relationships can either serve as a source of support or contribute to the challenges we face. The Loom aims to help clients address these issues by exploring how individuals’ struggles affect their relationships and vice versa, acknowledging the dynamic interplay between the two. This understanding forms the basis of our therapeutic approach, which seeks to support healing and growth within the context of these relationships. The most common reasons students come to see us are related to anxiety and depression, dating and relationship issues, academic or career related stress and burnout, gender and sexuality identity, disordered eating and body image, as well as cultural and identity focus. We offer individual and couples sessions in person in union square or online. We are also proud to offer sessions in Spanish.
