Therapists for college students near New York University
You might be here because life feels overwhelming, or you’re struggling with anxiety, depression, ADHD, OCD, or the lingering impact of trauma. Many of my clients come to therapy feeling stuck in painful emotional cycles or disconnected from who they used to be, whether because of relationship changes, career shifts, immigration experiences, or earlier life events that continue to affect them. In our work together, I offer a safe, collaborative space where you set the pace. I use cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) to help you identify and shift unhelpful thought patterns and behaviors and draw from narrative therapy to explore how your life experiences shape the way you see yourself and your future. We’ll also integrate mindfulness and self-compassion strategies so you have practical tools to navigate challenges day to day. My previous experience includes supporting individuals in crisis, leading wellness groups, and connecting clients with resources to enhance their well-being. These experiences strengthened my dedication to whole-person care and the importance of meeting people where they are. I specialize in supporting adults, including those navigating cultural identity-related stress and life transitions. As a trilingual clinician, I pay close attention to the ways culture and identity can impact mental health. My goal is for you to feel truly heard, supported, and empowered as we work together toward lasting growth and well-being. When I’m not working, I recharge by sharing meals and conversations with friends, enjoying movies, or listening to music that helps me reset after a full day. If you’re considering therapy, you don’t need to have everything figured out to start. This is your time and space, and I’m here to meet you wherever you are.

I've had meaningful experience working with patients struggling with substance use, anxiety, depression, and life transitions. These challenges often overlap and can show up as feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or not quite like yourself. I focus on helping patients understand what they're experiencing, such as differentiating intrusive thoughts from more severe conditions, which often reduces fear and improves engagement in treatment. I also work well with individuals who feel stuck in cycles of rumination, avoidance, or emotional dysregulation, helping them build insight and develop more effective ways to cope and function day to day. I’m most passionate about making mental healthcare more approachable, especially for LGBTQ+ individuals and underserved communities who often face added barriers, stigma, or lack of access to care. I find it meaningful to create a space that feels safe, affirming, and non-judgmental, where people can be fully themselves. My hope is that you feel comfortable being honest, even about things that are hard to say, and that over time you gain a clearer understanding of yourself, feel more in control of your thoughts and emotions, and build confidence in navigating your life.
The Loom was created as a space that recognizes the interconnectedness between an individual’s struggles and their relationships. Life’s challenges can impact our relationships, and in turn, our relationships can either serve as a source of support or contribute to the challenges we face. The Loom aims to help clients address these issues by exploring how individuals’ struggles affect their relationships and vice versa, acknowledging the dynamic interplay between the two. This understanding forms the basis of our therapeutic approach, which seeks to support healing and growth within the context of these relationships. The most common reasons students come to see us are related to anxiety and depression, dating and relationship issues, academic or career related stress and burnout, gender and sexuality identity, disordered eating and body image, as well as cultural and identity focus. We offer individual and couples sessions in person in union square or online. We are also proud to offer sessions in Spanish.

During college, it's not unusual to feel overwhelmed. Perhaps you want closer friendships. Maybe you get anxious when you talk to new people, or you feel lonely or down. Maybe you're falling back into a familiar depression or returning to high levels of anxiety you hoped wouldn't follow you to college. It can be hard to think about going to therapy when you don't even know what you'd say. If you feel badly about yourself or you feel hopeless, it might be hard to think anything will help. You are not alone. You don't have to have the answers. Listening compassionately, I will invite you to bring your experience into the room. Together, we can collaborate to better understand you and the challenges you're confronting. We may discover unmourned losses or unhealed wounds. We may identify recurring patterns of thoughts, feelings, and interactions that may not be serving you anymore. Experiencing a greater emotional range, you can begin to heal. After working in university counseling centers for over 15 years, I now see many undergraduate and graduate students in private practice. I enjoy working both with students who are new to psychotherapy as well as those who have been in therapy previously. Many students I work with are LGBTQIA+/ queer students.

Hi! I’m Rachel Wolk (she/her), a neurodiverse, LGBTQIA+ affirming therapist. I’m passionate about supporting folks through anxiety, complex trauma, Autism, and ADHD. I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Social Work from the University of Pittsburgh and a Master of Social Work from Columbia University, where I specialized in Advanced Clinical Practice. I'm also trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapy. My approach is grounded in trauma-informed, relationship-based work. I often integrate sensory and somatic interventions, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Coherence Therapy to support the mind-body-environment connection. I believe in honoring each person’s unique nervous system and lived experience, and I strive to create a space where all parts of you feel seen and supported. While I do offer in-person sessions, we’ll likely meet virtually to better accommodate the flexibility needed for a college schedule. That said, I’m always open to making exceptions on a case-by-case basis if in-person sessions feel essential to creating a safe and secure therapeutic space for you. If you have any questions, feel free to send me an email, I'm happy to set up a free 15-minute consultation call!
You may be entering a new stage in your life, whether it is heading to college and moving out of your childhood home, starting your career, choosing to seek graduate or advanced training, or becoming serious in a committed relationship and starting your own family. You know what you want to achieve, but need additional support in navigating the stresses of setting off on this new path. Or maybe you want help in redefining the roles your family members and loved ones have in your life as you walk towards adulthood in a chaotic world. Maybe you have started your own family and made the decision to become a parent. You may want to parent differently than your parents, but are unsure how. You might be experiencing anxiety around being responsible for a vulnerable new human being. Children can be mirrors, reflecting our own experiences of childhood back onto us. Perhaps past painful experiences of not having your own needs met in childhood are bubbling up and you want to have a safe space to process and explore those experiences. Making lasting change can be difficult for most, and choosing therapy is the first step on the path towards positive growth and change.

My goal and passion is to assist and empower my clients to identify the changes they choose to make to have the life they have desired. My name is Scott Graybow. I am a psychotherapist with over 15 years of clinical experience and extensive post-graduate training. I welcome the opportunity to help you work on the issues that bring you to therapy. I understand therapy to be a cooperative effort in which we work together to help you engage with your mind, your environment, and your relationships. Therapy is pragmatic yet deeply meaningful; we simultaneously focus on immediate problems and opportunities for long-term growth. Throughout our work together, I strive to offer help that resonates with your individual needs and preferences. I work with young adults, adults, seniors, and couples. People who work with me are often seeking help for depression, anxiety, trauma, sexuality/intimacy, LGBTQ issues, self-esteem, religion/spirituality, work/life balance, men's issues, and the emotional impact of navigating challenging life transitions. As your therapist, I work to help you understand yourself so you can grow, be more effective, and cope better with the problems that bring you to therapy. I earned a PhD at the CUNY Graduate Center and an MSW from Columbia University. I completed postgraduate psychotherapy training at the Psychoanalytic Training Institute of the Contemporary Freudian Society. Besides private practice, I’ve worked as a therapist at the Department of Veterans Affairs, the Washington Square Inst., and Montefiore Medical Center. I also have experience teaching clinical practice classes to graduate-level social work students and publishing/presenting peer reviewed articles about psychotherapy and other mental health topics.
Modern Psychotherapy with a Creative Edge
Finding the right therapist can be a daunting task — developing a connection with someone is vulnerable and challenging, but it can be well worth it. I am committed to equipping and empowering my clients with the necessary tools to effectively understand and manage their mental health. In my work with teens and adults, my number one priority is creating a comfortable, person-centered, and safely challenging environment where you can move at your own pace and trust that you will be met with understanding, support, and respect. I provide a trauma-informed, empathetic space to explore difficult prior experiences, without rush or judgment. I am especially passionate about anxiety disorders, OCD, trauma, and queer and trans community work. As a proud member of the queer community myself, I understand the importance of LGBTQ+ visibility in the therapeutic space. While I am formally trained in ERP, ACT, and LGBTQ+ centered CBT, I am adaptable in my treatment style and I believe that supporting client needs and fostering the therapeutic relationship is key. To learn more about my practice and treatment style, please feel free to send me an email or schedule a free 15-minute phone consultation.
My clients often come to me feeling stuck. Managing on the outside, but overwhelmed on the inside, whether that's from chronic pain and illness, a major life change, or the pressure of holding everything together. They rarely come looking for someone to tell them to think more positively. They've tried that. They come wanting a space to honestly reckon with what's changed, figure out what still matters, and start building something meaningful from where they actually are. For some, that's anxiety, self-criticism, or burnout. For others, it's rebuilding an identity after chronic pain, injury, or illness changed the life they planned. I work primarily from an Acceptance and Commitment Therapy framework. The work is less about fixing what's wrong and more about learning to relate differently to difficult thoughts and feelings, so you can move toward what actually matters, even when discomfort or old patterns show up. I'm a former collegiate athlete and Army Infantry Officer who came to this work after over a decade in corporate and healthcare leadership, including firsthand experience with chronic pain. That background shapes how I show up in the room, grounded, direct, and genuinely curious about what matters to you. Reach out and let's find out if we're a good fit.
Kaitie works primarily with people across the life-span experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, PTSD, low self-esteem, relationship challenges, life transitions, and questions related to spirituality and personal growth. Using a client-centered and collaborative approach, Kaitie brings warmth, curiosity, compassion, and intuition to every session. She is committed to creating a safe, nonjudgmental environment where you can deepen your understanding of yourself, strengthen emotional resilience, heal from emotional wounds, and move toward lasting growth and meaningful change.
Welcome! I’m glad you’re here, ready to embark upon the path toward a better tomorrow. Do you feel stuck or overwhelmed on that path now? Are you are navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, ADHD, grief, or major life transitions? You are not alone. I am a board-certified psychiatric nurse practitioner providing personalized mental health care for adolescents and adults. Together, we work to quiet the noise of these symptoms so you can refocus on what matters most to you. I look forward to helping you feel more empowered and connected to your life as we work toward meaningful and lasting change. My approach is grounded and collaborative, integrating medication management with supportive therapy, tailoring treatment to your unique needs and goals. I see medication as one of many possible tools that may be valuable for some, but not necessary for everyone. When used mindfully, it can help ease barriers and allow therapy to unfold more fully. No matter the therapeutic approach, I believe you are the expert of your own lived experience; my role is to walk alongside you with curiosity and compassion. Whether we are exploring your story through talk therapy, considering medication options, or both, my priority is to create a space where you feel safe, heard, and understood. Drawing on my background in neuroscience and psychology, I am dedicated to caring for the whole person rather than just a diagnosis. This foundation guides my commitment to showing up with a presence that is as evidence-based as it is human. Outside of the office, I find my own balance through reading, skiing, cooking, and spending quality time with my friends and family.
