Therapists for college students near New York University
My practice is a small, specialty practice which serves women who are coping with the impact of trauma, painful life events, and adjusting to various transitions. I am trained in an evidenced-based therapy called EMDR, which is very effective for the treatment of trauma. I use EMDR therapy within an individualized approach, to assist my clients in moving forward from painful events. I also often assist my clients in strengthening their ability to be mindful, especially as a means of effectively regulating emotion. I worked as a therapist in a college counseling center for 6 years and deeply enjoy working with students. Please feel free to get in touch to discuss your therapy goals.
The decision to seek psychotherapy is a life-changing choice. Whether you are seeking therapy to address a specific concern or simply to engage in a personal exploration, the therapeutic process can help increase self-awareness, process trauma, improve your relationships with others and with yourself, identify healthier coping skills, and improve your overall well-being. I want to hear your story and help you live the life you want for yourself. I take a holistic, person-centered approach considering all aspects - mental, emotional, social, physical, and spiritual - when caring for my patients. My style is warm, interactive and collaborative and I strive to provide a compassionate, supportive environment where healing and growth can take place. Choosing a therapist is a personal decision and one to be considered with great care. I invite you to call me for an initial phone consultation to determine whether working with me feels like a good match.

I’m a caring, outdoor loving, problem solving person at heart. I’m passionate about helping others feel alive, confident and encouraged. I have found many tools along my professional and personal journey to support people in managing painful emotions, de-escalating family and partner conflict and living a life informed, not run, by emotions. I’ve experienced how strong and complicated, messy and beautiful families can be. I’ve also seen how trauma, seemingly “small” or “large,” can affect a person and those closest to them, how it can empower and debilitate. Emotions can be confusing and they can also help cultivate our strengths. When it comes to facing painful emotions, people can sometimes feel alone, scared and hopeless, with nowhere to turn. There are resources, places, people and skills that can help. You don’t have to do this alone. I want you to know that it’s possible to find comfort and hope in the midst of loss, trauma, conflict or whatever challenge you may be facing. While I believe one of the most important factors in making therapy work for you is how you connect with your therapist, it’s also important you be given the tools and care to move you toward your goals. All too often I’ve seen how discouraged people become by mental health care and it’s my goal to provide a service that is routed in effective methods and treatment and a genuine, caring space for you to share and shape your story. I am committed to helping individuals and families get “unstuck” and lead you toward experiencing joy, genuine connection, hope and the ability to access your strengths, passions and resources. No matter what your age, socio-economic status, religion, race, sexual orientation, gender identity or culture, mental health can affect us all; and sometimes these factors can unfairly make it even more challenging to navigate. I provide a safe, non-judgmental space for everyone to talk and heal.
My practice involves first taking time to establish comfortability and trust. From there, I introduce everyone to a variety of approaches depending on what suits their needs helps then meet their goals.

With 9 years of experience, I have worked with all sorts of issues, including anxiety, depression, trauma, insomnia, grief, relationship challenges, and life transitions. I am an LGBTQ+ ally. College can be an exciting time, but it also comes with unique pressures: academic stress, big life decisions, changing relationships, and figuring out who you are and who you want to be. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or unsure, you don’t have to go through it alone. I’m Erin C. Hayes, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a Master of Science in Social Work from Columbia University. My passion is helping young women tap into their strengths, build confidence, and navigate challenges such as anxiety, depression, eating disorders, and other emotional or medical stressors. I often use Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), which focuses on reshaping unhelpful thought patterns so you can feel more in control of your emotions and actions. I also integrate other approaches when they’re the right fit because therapy should feel personal, and not a one-size-fits-all. I believe our past experiences shape how we see ourselves, but they don’t have to define our future. In our work together, you’ll find a supportive, judgment-free space where you can be heard, gain clarity, and move forward with resilience and self-assurance. If you’re ready to explore your potential and create a future that feels true to you, I’d be honored to support you on that journey. <script src="https://thrivingcampus.com/verified.js?pid=41620"></script>
