Making the choice to pursue therapy is an investment in yourself. Therapy is a journey that is shaped by the relationship established between the therapist and the client. Regardless of how the pursuit of therapy evolved, I aim to establish a relationship based on trust, honesty, humor, and respect. These qualities are imperative in working through the difficulties that can disrupt life and relationships. Together we will work toward the fulfillment of your goals and potential.
Are you not feeling like yourself? Are you overwhelmed by things that shouldn't be all that overwhelming? It's often hardest to reach out for help when you're feeling this way. I also utilize Sandtray therapy which uses creative, hands-on exploration to access emotions and insights that words alone may not express. Our Mission Statement: An Innovative Approach to Therapy Here at Tompkins Community Counseling, we tailor to your needs and will work in the environment that is best for you. Our goal is to provide you with professional, client-led, goal-based counseling, while working in whatever setting is most comfortable for you— in the community, online, or in our office. We understand how difficult it can be to ask for help and discuss your life challenges, so we try to make the journey as comfortable as possible for you. Simply put, we achieve this by following your lead throughout the counseling process. We use a Client-Led Counseling model, finding strengths that you already have and building on them to reach resolutions. We follow the pace of our clients to help them achieve control over their lives, helping them make positive choices by offering them specific tools and practical strategies for change. We also practice a wide variety of treatment models and support you in choosing one that is a good fit for you. We will help you to define your long term goals, allowing our sessions to be driven by focused goals that will lead to a successful discharge.
I offer LGBTQIA+ affirming care for adults and young adults in New York and across over 40 states through PsyPact, with virtual therapy tailored to each client's unique needs. I have also received advanced training in postpartum mood/anxiety disorders through Postpartum Support International, which allows me to help new parents dealing with perinatal concerns. I use evidence-based approaches like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and relational psychotherapy, and provide documentation for out-of-network insurance reimbursement and sliding scale rates when needed.
The transition to college at any age can be challenging. Course load, social pressures and changes to friend network during this transition can cause anxiety, depression, burnout and relationship issues. These things can keep you awake at night, make it difficult to focus on your studies, lead you to engage in negative self-talk and unhealthy behaviors. I can help you develop coping strategies to help ease that transition so you can make healthy choices and achieve your educational goals.
Welcome! If you're here, reading this, I want to tell you how great it is that you're looking for support. It's a scary process and one with many twists and turns. I work with people, just like you, who are trying to figure things out, get their footing and understand what their options are. Although we'd all love one, there is no playbook for how to make tough decisions, navigate all the big feelings and situations that come up while you're also trying to do well in school and, frankly, attempt to enjoy the experience of being at college. But it can be tough to make all the pieces work for you. That's what we do together - we figure out what's working for you, what's not going so well and what you'd like to do to make changes. Therapy can sound a bit overwhelming - it's really just a long running conversation. Perhaps you're an old hat at therapy but you've needed to find someone new - that's challenging in its own way. Whatever you're looking for, it's good that you've started. If you're ready, curious or just want to know more, please don't hesitate to reach out for a consult call where we'd get to know each other a bit, see if we'd be a good fit and go from there! And it's free! If I'm not for you - and I'm not, that's the way this works - that's OK and together we can figure out what might be a bit better fitting. I hope to hear from you and in the meantime, wish you the best.

My approach to therapy is focused on developing genuine relationships that are collaborative and empathic, so clients can feel safe, understood, and supported in sessions. I’m committed to exploring and affirming each client's individuality and intersecting identities, and to supporting individuals in the LGBTQ+ and CNM communities, college students, and professors. I work with adults focused on issues related to social anxiety, ADHD, trauma, LGBTQ+ issues, relationship/communication dynamics, and climate anxiety. Sessions are based on a foundation of relational warmth and safety to build a sense of connection, empowerment, deeper insight, and personal resiliency. I primarily draw from person-centered, feminist, trauma-informed, narrative, and IFS approaches, but there is not one specific kind of therapy that works well for everyone. We all have unique strengths and perspectives. Sessions focus on identifying ways to create sustainable positive changes given each client's particular context and lived experience.
I believe in healing through corrective experiences. It is possible to heal from trauma & anxiety, rather than just learning coping with it! I prefer to use methods that are designed to alleviate the distress associated with painful memories. This includes Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR) and other Experiential Therapy modalities that are proven to be equally as effective in a virtual setting.

Whether you are living in physical pain or emotional pain, we will work together to help you sleep better, decrease pain, improve relationships, get "unstuck" and feel happier. One of our greatest goals as clinicians is treating you with the support and care you deserve. We not only want to help you feel better, we want to help you live better and move out of negative patterns of behavior that do not serve you. We work from an integrative perspective, meaning that we have been trained in a wide variety of psychological techniques and will combine them to help you achieve your goals. We will teach you to use the tools that help you most, so that you can continue to work with these techniques on your own, once you have completed therapy. And that sense of independence and control you gain over your own life, that will feel truly fulfilling!
