I want their goals to be realistic and attainable. I want my clients to understand that therapy is their space and time to create their own goals. My first session with you In the first session I will inquire with clients what their goals are and what brings them into therapy. I believe there is no true beginning or end to Healing, working on ourselves, or trying to have forward motion in our lives (but that it DOES get better!), so any entry point into counseling as a tool in those processes is the right one. /"This is heart work, and you can't think your way around this; you've gotta feel your way through it." / /"The soul always knows what to do to heal itself. The challenge is to silence the mind."/ The therapeutic relationship is of utmost importance. I will ask you to face hard things in our work together, so I expect of myself that same call for transparency and authenticity- I do my best to live out Brene Brown's concept of "getting in the arena" with you. I also try to instill hope and light (I know I sure need it); we will also laugh! Healing requires both grit and softness. This work is such an honor, and it has become built into the fiber of my being. Please come as you are- I hope you can trust yourself to take the next step, no matter how many steps have already been taken or how many you feel have yet to be taken.
I’m a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC) in North Carolina with a passion for helping young adults navigate life’s challenges. I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Bowie State University and my Master’s in Counseling from Webster University. Since 1997, I’ve worked with adolescents, adults, and families across a range of settings, including outpatient and inpatient programs, schools, private practice, and the court system. I’ve also supported individuals in a substance use drug court program and worked with teens in day treatment and special education classrooms. College can be an exciting time—but it can also bring stress, anxiety, pressure to succeed, relationship struggles, and questions about identity or purpose. I offer a space where you can be heard without judgment and supported in building the tools to manage your mental health, make empowered choices, and grow into the best version of yourself. My therapeutic style combines Person-Centered Therapy, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Therapy, and DBT to meet your individual needs and goals.
My goal is to create a safe and non-judgmental environment where clients are able to explore issues and improve the quality of their lives. I use an integrative style of psychotherapy that pulls from many different approaches with an emphasis on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. My work with clients is based on a collaborative approach that promotes a strong alliance and allows for open and honest communication. Within this foundation, clients develop the safety and freedom to challenge behaviors and beliefs and discover new attitudes that promote change.
Life can be relentless and present challenges that feel overwhelming. It takes strength to ask for help and courage to become vulnerable with someone new. I recognize this and will work at your pace to form a trusting relationship with you where you can feel safe, validated, and respected. I have experience working with teens and adults who find themselves worrying about the future or things they cannot control. I have worked with people who are processing past hurtful and stressful life events so they can find a sense of strength and security in the present. I enjoy helping people see their worth so their self-talk transforms. I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy techniques to help clients explore the connection between their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors while learning skills to better navigate their daily life. I also incorporate mindfulness exercises to build a stronger mind-body connection and stay grounded in the present moment. You are worthy of having an unbiased space where you feel safe to process your experiences.
