Therapists for college students near 27705
All of us face times when life brings more than we can manage alone. Asking for help—even when asking is hard—is the first step toward a different experience. I have faced my own struggles, and I find deep joy and fulfillment in walking with others on their journeys toward healing, connection, and reawakened hope. As a mental health therapist, I support my clients to grow and thrive, to move toward what wellness means to them, and to deepen their connections both to others and to their own strengths and resources. Above all, I prioritize building a safe therapist-client relationship in which clients feel seen, respected, empowered, and welcomed as their full and authentic selves. My approach to therapy is trauma-informed, attachment-based, and experiential. In our counseling sessions, we will work together collaboratively to identify your goals for therapy and agree on strategies to move toward them. We may explore your thoughts, beliefs, and stories, your emotions, your body’s wisdom, and your creativity during our time together. We won’t just talk about what’s wrong—we’ll actively practice ways of making it better. Throughout it all, we’ll make sure our work together feels safe, supportive, and truly helpful to you. Whether you are facing the challenges of everyday life, navigating change and uncertainty, healing from deeper traumas and self-protective patterns, or seeking greater safety and security within relationships, I would be honored to support you.
Hello, and welcome. I'm Avianna Marcelin, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in North Carolina. I earned my Master of Social Work from Winthrop University and take an eclectic approach to therapy, tailoring treatment to meet each client's unique needs and goals. I enjoy working with folks from all walks of life who may experience depression, anxiety, or have a history of trauma. My goal is to create a collaborative therapeutic relationship where you feel supported as you work toward greater well-being and personal growth.
I have always had a calling for helping others, and I am so grateful to have found the career path of clinical social work. I was inspired to become a therapist after I met with a therapist after my father passed away when I was a young girl. I know first-hand how scary it can be to share your story, but trust me having an un-biased, non-judgmental, listening ear can go a long way. I have gained valuable skills working in various settings, including non-profit work, public health, research, and inpatient hospitalization. My experiences have allowed me to work with people of all ages, across diverse backgrounds, and on the individual, family, and group level. I work with individuals aged 12 and up, couples, and families. Prior to joining Wake Counseling & Mediation, I worked with adults who have chronic health conditions using my training in Lifestyle Medicine, a holistic approach to preventing disease through nutrition, exercise, and self-care habits. I additionally have worked closely with the gender diverse population by addressing anxiety, depression, and gender dysphoria, creating a support group, and engaging in research to better gender affirming care. I also have clinical experience in counseling pregnant & postpartum women, their children and families. Depending on your needs, I utilize a variety of modalities including Solutions-Focused, Psychodynamic, Acceptance & Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and Exposure Therapy. I prefer to use a multicultural, person-centered, and strengths-based lens in all situations. No matter the setting or population, I provide a passionate and caring approach for patients to work through all of life’s challenges, whether that be chronic illness, major life transitions, mental health concerns including anxiety, depression trauma, and sexual or gender identity journey. As a counselor, I am here to listen, partner with you, and offer support for you to overcome obstacles, meet your goals, and ultimately live your best life possible.
I provide individual therapy to individuals who are looking for help to cope with life's various twists and turns. I utilize an organic approach to gain an understanding of your specific life situations and stressors that are contributing to your current feelings. I use positive affirmations, strength identification and skill building to encourage you to reach your personal goals. We will work quickly to alleviate uncomfortable symptoms while we learn to identify triggers that may cause these feelings in order to focus on making long term changes that will help you to move forward through life. I would love the opportunity to work with you to find a way to bring out the strength that is inside of you. You are capable of so much more than you can even imagine!

I’m a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC) in North Carolina with a passion for helping young adults navigate life’s challenges. Since 1997, I’ve worked with adolescents, adults, and families across a range of settings, including outpatient and inpatient programs, schools, private practice, and the court system. I’ve also supported individuals in a substance use drug court program and worked with teens in day treatment and special education classrooms. College can be an exciting time—but it can also bring stress, anxiety, pressure to succeed, relationship struggles, and questions about identity or purpose. I offer a space where you can be heard without judgment and supported in building the tools to manage your mental health, make empowered choices, and grow into the best version of yourself. My therapeutic style combines Person-Centered Therapy, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Therapy, and DBT to meet your individual needs and goals.

Thank you for considering working with me. I understand how important it is to have the right support during difficult times. In the beginning, clients typically tell me they can't stop thinking about food. They’re finding a large part of their day is dedicated to their next meal. They miss out on time with loved ones because the concern of what they will “be able” to eat is too strong. A lot of my clients find themselves in a dieting spiral. They “do good” for a while, and then they binge later, leading to feelings of shame and guilt. Most have heard confusing things about bodies throughout their lives. After some hard work and difficult conversations, these clients get their lives back. They stop thinking about food as much, they see their bodies as neutral, and they take back control of their lives. The time they used to spend thinking about food and exercise is replaced with meaningful memories with friends and family. My style of therapy involves a lot of humor, open mindedness, focusing on strengths, and providing feedback. You can expect a listening ear, a confidential space, and a therapist who wants to see you develop into the best possible version of yourself. I am currently seeing clients in NC(in person or virtual) and OH (virtually) Questions? Call or email for a free consultation!
You know what you want to change. Yet, you know they aren't improving or even worsening, leaving you feeling more alone. While a part of you wants to feel connected and supported by loved ones and friends, they may not get it and would confirm your fear of rejection or for being too much. You've always been highly sensitive to other people's emotions, and you learned young to hide them and deal with it by yourself. Deep down you want support, but don't know what or how to get it, leaving you feeling alone and misunderstood. You are tired of not understanding why you are feeling and reacting so strongly. Enough's enough. You deserve more. What if you can explore how you learned to show up and manage stress in relationships? What if you don't have to abandon your needs to feel loved and safe? What if you can look at the same "problem" in different ways to better see new possible solutions? What if you learn honor your needs and fears, and communicate them clearly so you feel seen and heard? In the past 14 years, I have focused on helping people like you better understand themselves and experience a safe space to explore and process their lives. To be seen and heard, and connect with the person you've always been. To view your struggles from new perspectives and find ways to create changes. You've got this. We've got this.
We believe that individualized care is essential for positive outcomes. At CIC we recognize that every person has distinct needs, preferences, and strengths. Through collaborative efforts with our clients, we co-create personalized treatment plans that empower them to take an active role in their mental health journey. We utilize evidence-based therapeutic modalities that are tailored to meet each client’s needs and strengths. We offer individual, couples, adolescent, and teen, personal addiction, and EMDR counseling. We tailor modalities to meet each client's personal mental health needs. Life can feel overwhelming—whether you’re navigating a major life change, feeling stuck in patterns that no longer serve you, or simply trying to find your footing. If you’re struggling, know that you deserve support. You deserve to feel heard. And you don’t have to do this alone.
Do you feel guilty if you say no to someone or ask for help with something? Do you feel like you're too much or too emotional? Do you want to stop dysfunctional family patterns and break generational trauma? Do you want to stop using coping skills that hurt you or your loved ones? If you answered yes to any of these, then you've come to the right spot. Together, we can discover the root causes behind your struggles with anger, anxiety, guilt, shame, depression, codependency, disorganized eating or low-self esteem. It only takes one person to break a cycle and together we can get you to where you want to be in your healing journey. I empower women, men and teenagers by giving them tools to find their voice and advocate for what they need. My goal is to work myself out of a job and give you the tools that you need to be successful. I bring a trauma-informed approach to my sessions that focuses on mindfulness, relaxation, self compassion and advocating for what your needs are.
Our approach encompasses comprehensive care that goes beyond what you will find at your average mental health practice. We offer comprehensive psychotherapy services that go beyond the typical weekly appointment to include ongoing coordination with medical providers and stakeholders in your health/wellbeing, advocacy and consultation, connections with local and national resources, assistance navigating the complex system of mental health services, and incorporation of primary supports. We also offer evaluations incorporating scientifically valid, reliable psychological testing, in-depth clinical interviews, review of medical/legal records, and completion of collateral interviews. Both of our doctorate level psychologists have extensive experience service as expert witnesses in the justice system and are specifically trained to complete clinical, civil, forensic, and psychoeducational evaluations to meet the specific client's needs.
Life doesn't have to feel so hard. You may be anxious, insecure, worried, depressed, lost, or stuck. Maybe you're preoccupied with food & your body. Or stressed out trying to be perfect & get it right, but it always feels like you're falling behind. Maybe your relationships are unsatisfying or you're having less-than-ideal sex. You can't quite put your finger on the problem, but you know that life just feels like a drag right now. You don't have to keep struggling. No matter what's going on, you can make positive changes that improve your life. You deserve to feel joyful, confident, & free. I want to help you get there.

Our experiences in this world, often based on identities or trauma, can leave us feeling stressed and uncertain. It's confusing to have your worries get in the way of making the connections with people that you long for; or to be so convinced you will fail that it's hard to take the first step in doing the next thing you want to do; or to be suddenly totally overwhelmed in the middle of this exciting new experience you'd been waiting for. Sometimes people need some help slowing down, reconnecting with themselves, and finding new ways to respond so that they can move forward with hope, self-compassion, and empowerment. I have spent many years working in college mental health, helping students from all identities and backgrounds navigate the growth and challenge of the college experience. My approach is collaborative. Together we figure out what's getting in the way for you. I'll be with you in the hard moments, naming and exploring your thoughts, feelings, and experiences so that you can find ways to respond to them that are helpful. Increased connection with your body is key. Let's also celebrate the wins, big and small, along the way. Finding a therapist that is a good fit is so important—if you're not comfortable enough to tell your therapist what's really going on, therapy won't work. Let's find a time to connect to see if I would be a good fit for you in your next step.
