I practice with authenticity and meet each individual where they are currently. I am collaborative with my patients and respect the wisdom that they inherently possess and empower them to find the solutions that are congruent with their individual lifestyles. I am a big believer in the relationship between patient and clinician, wellness, and self care as agents of change.

I have maintained an independent private practice since 1992. I am confident that you will find my "keep it simple" and goal directed approach fitting to your needs. You will know by the end of our first visit if we "connected". Establishing rapport is instrumental in moving forward and achieving your goals. In addition to providing outpatient counseling to young adults and adults I provide substance abuse and anger management assessments.
At Misfit Minds, we work best with students who feel a little overwhelmed by life—even if they’re doing “fine” on the outside. Many of the students we support are carrying anxiety, stress, trauma, or complicated relationship experiences that make it hard to focus, rest, or feel like themselves. Our clients often say things like: “I’m exhausted and always on edge.” “My brain won’t shut off.” “I’ve been through a lot, and it still affects me.” “I don’t feel understood in other spaces.” We’re a good fit for students who want therapy that feels real, supportive, and non-judgmental, not stiff or overly clinical. We especially connect with students navigating anxiety, identity questions, difficult family or relationship dynamics, past emotional harm, or feeling out of place. You don’t need to have everything figured out—or even know exactly what’s wrong—to start. If you want a space where you can be honest, go at your own pace, and be met with compassion, Misfit Minds may be a good fit for you.

College can be a wild mix of freedom and stress... with friend drama, missing home but wanting independence, figuring out what you want to do with your life, financial pressure, loneliness when friend groups shift, and the everyday weight of adult responsibilities starting to pile up. It’s a lot to carry, and it makes sense if you’re feeling stuck, anxious, or unsure how to handle it all. And then, when you’re finally ready to reach out for support, finding a therapist can feel like another full-time assignment. Scrolling through endless profiles feels a little like online dating... you’re reading way too many bios, everyone sounds kind of the same, and you’re left wondering who you’ll actually click with. Add in the stress of costs, schedules, and trying to figure out if they’ll really get what you’re going through, and it’s exhausting before you even start. My goal is to make that step less overwhelming and give you a space where you don’t have to perform, pretend, or have it all figured out.
I love working with people who think they may have lost the plot. Who wonder if their symptoms may be a natural reaction to our society and our utter disconnection....from everything. I see you, and I get it. I think there is more to a life well-lived than mainstream notions of success. Come explore your life through values exploration and honest self-assessment, whether short or long-term. Welcoming and affirming for LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC. I have an eclectic approach, which is a fancy way of saying that I don't rely on any one way of approaching curiosities. But my starting point is always from a place of your strengths, the things you are doing well, and your unique interests/wants/needs. I trend toward elements from Acceptance and Commitment, Positive Psychology, Existentialism, Brief Solution- Focused, Motivational Interviewing, Behavioral Activation, Radical Acceptance, and Mindfulness. I am progressive in my politics, non-religious, and I believe that cursing is a valid form of self-expression. Humor is a big part of how I communicate and I believe it can get us through a lot of things. Despite being a middle-aged white woman who grew up in the south, you will find no bigoted mindset here. I will never pretend to understand the totality of your experience, but I do promise to see you, hear you, and respect you, while being mindful of the systemic, familial, and cultural issues that may be impacting you. I have stopped taking insurance because of all the barriers it creates from its medical model of viewing functionality and need. I know this creates a financial barrier for some, but I believe that until the system changes, its more of a detriment overall. But lets check those out-of-network benefits and see what we can squeeze out of the insurance company for you :)
Viktor Frankl said "When we are no longer able to change a situation, we are challenged to change ourselves." I find building healthy client/therapist relationships very satisfying. I enjoy working with clients who are open to growth. I am the mother of 3 young adult daughters. I am active in my profession by serving on the Board of Directors as President for 2018-19 as well as 3 prior terms as Western District Chair, for The Licensed Professional Counselors Association of GA (LPCA-GA). I am Certified as a Clinical Supervisor by LPCA-GA. I work with all sorts of populations, but I particularly feel that my strengths lie in working with young adults, adults, women, teens, pre-teens, parenting issues, anxiety, substance abuse, trauma and anyone going through a challenging life transition or existential crisis. I am Certified as a Clinical Trauma Professional through IATP. More details available on my website. I love being a Psychotherapist because I have the honor of hearing my clients stories. Each day I learn something new from clients and I hope that they are learning from me as well. Every day I am amazed at the strength and courage my clients have shown in their lives and I am honored at being invited into those stories and asked for guidance and clarity. College life can be exciting, overwhelming, and everything in between. I understand the unique stressors that come with being a college student—academic pressure, life transitions, relationships, identity exploration, and balancing it all. As a former college student myself, I bring both personal understanding and professional experience into the work we do together. I have experience working with young adults ages 18–25 and strive to create a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental space where you can feel heard and understood. My approach is collaborative and compassionate, drawing from cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), trauma-informed care, and person-centered modalities. I believe therapy should meet you where you are and honor your individual experiences and strengths. I would love to support you as you navigate life’s challenges, build resilience, and begin healing the parts of you that need care and attention. You don’t have to do this alone.

Many of our clients come to us feeling lost, challenged, or overwhelmed—but through compassionate support and practical strategies, they find the courage to build new skills and feel more confident about themselves and their lives. Since 1990, our practice has been dedicated to helping children, adolescents, college students, women, and families take control of their lives so they can grow, heal, and thrive. Our team of therapists uses a flexible, individualized approach to meet each client’s needs. Sometimes this looks like traditional talk therapy, play therapy, or family therapy; other times it might include Telehealth video sessions for added convenience. We also integrate specialized techniques such as EMDR, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution-Focused strategies, and Play Therapy to help clients reach their goals. In addition to individual and family counseling, Sunrise Counseling offers group opportunities, including supportive groups for women and teens. These spaces allow clients to connect with others, share experiences, and learn new tools in a supportive environment. At Sunrise Counseling, we believe therapy should not only bring relief in difficult moments but also empower clients with lasting skills to feel good about themselves and their relationships. Together, we help individuals and families find clarity, resilience, and hope for the future.
