Therapists for college students near 30303
Hello! My name is Alex. I am part of a private practice called Early Connections Child & Family Counseling. I specialize in working with children, adolescents, and college students. While college can bring a lot of novelty and excitement, it can also bring difficulty and pain. You may meet hundreds of new people, but feel lonely and disconnected. Challenges at home or past trauma may make it tough for you to stay mentally and emotionally present on campus. You might feel anxious and overwhelmed as your classwork and other commitments pile up. These are just a few examples of stressors many college students face everyday. Regardless of where you are now, it takes a lot of courage to begin the process of counseling, and I would be honored to be a part of your journey. I work hard to create a safe, authentic, and engaging space where every student can freely express themselves. We will work together to identify areas in your life where I can be supportive, and create goals that will help you live your life well. Please contact me with any questions. I look forward to meeting you!

Hi! I’m Samantha Heuwagen, a sex, marriage & family therapist, best-selling author, and activist. When I’m not working with clients, I promote and engage in the discussion surrounding mental health and healthy relationships through social media, lectures, workshops, and writing. Featured on The Huffington Post, NBC News, Bustle, DatingNews.com, and more, my goal is to spread awareness by challenging the popular discourse concerning mental health, healthy relationships, and sex.
Most likely, you are searching due to questions about the world you are entering into, and what is your next step now that you are in college or nearing the end. My goal is to help you navigate your next step and, if necessary, assist in reducing your anxiety and depression that may or may not be correlated to your college experience.
Treatment Philosophy We are a counseling practice and professional team that believes in developing personal, caring relationships with our clients. Time after time, clinical studies have proven that success in counseling isn’t about theory or techniques. It’s about relationships. Specifically, the relationship between you and your clinician. We strive to make counseling a uniquely helpful and positive experience. A one size fits all approach doesn’t work. If people are individuals, shouldn’t counseling be individualized? We will work together to construct an approach that fits your needs and create an experience that helps you achieve progress. Our treatment philosophy values a strength-based outlook. In other words, while we’ll carefully consider your issues and concerns, we’ll also spend a considerable amount of time leveraging what you do well and how to build on those strengths using scientifically supported counseling techniques. Counseling doesn’t have to be a long, drawn out process to be helpful. Sometimes all it takes is a small step in the right direction for you to move forward in your life. For more information on individual counseling, couples counseling, marriage counseling, career counseling, and psychological testing, please click here. What Makes Us Different? Client care is our highest priority and it shows in everything we do. We offer direct care and support from start to finish. You’ll have a real conversation to help determine which therapist will be the ideal match for yourself or your family’s needs. From that point on you’ll schedule directly with your therapist. You will always be cared for by a licensed professional. We are a treatment team. We regularly consult with each other on cases so that you’ll have the benefit of the combined wisdom and expertise of all of our staff working closely together to create the best possible outcomes for you. Please know that we hold ourselves to the highest standards of ethical behavior and confidentiality. Your personal information is safe with us and stays within the confines of Focus Forward practice. Have you ever wondered whether your therapist has a job, a career, or a calling? We are a group of clinicians who are fueled by callings. We are passionate about our work and never forget the privilege we have to be able to help others. We are a values driven practice. We don’t just stick a mission statement on a plaque and ignore it. When I was a sophomore in college I was diagnosed with a chronic illness. It was a devastating time for me, juggling numerous doctor’s appointments, going to school, having a part-time job, and witnessing the beginning of the end of my parents’ marriage. I eventually got to a point a few years later, after getting married and moving away from home, that I just couldn’t continue pretending like everything was okay. Getting out of bed was a struggle, and so was being motivated to do anything. That was the first time I seeked out therapy, and it had a profound impact on my life. I was able to find new purpose and confidence, which started my own journey of being a counselor, because I wanted to help other people through their tough times. Now I am fortunate to be able to support other women as they work through the difficult periods of their lives, redefining themselves, setting goals, and finding renewed purpose. Let me assist you in doing just that!
Were you recently diagnosed with a Chronic Illness? Or perhaps always had one and unable to balance school AND your health? As if college wasn't already hard enough, now add a list of doctors, medications, and the newest anti-inflammatory menu. It's okay to not have it ALL figured out. During our sessions, we will navigate this together. I will provide space for you to iron out the frustrations and re-write your healing journey. Be well, C. Hunter
