Life can often be difficult and emotions can feel overwhelming. Sometimes it feels as though the rug has been pulled out from underneath us. Maybe you're dealing with your own mental health, you have a loved one struggling with substance use, you're navigating infertility, or you're having a hard time setting boundaries. Whatever it is that has lead you here, I'm glad you are reaching out. I hope to provide a space to you that honors your story, facilitates personal growth and allows you to be authentic. I believe that each of us deserve to find healing and that includes you. Asking for help is one of the bravest things we can do. Life can often be difficult and emotions can feel overwhelming. Acceptance and change are hard. I help people face and make space for their life histories and experiences and support them in identifying and making the changes that lead to meaning and satisfaction in their lives and relationships. I believe that you are the expert on your life, and my role is to provide encouragement, support and guidance on your journey of healing and growth. My practice is focused on the needs of men, and I enjoy helping men that are struggling with anxiety, depression, chronic illness or disability, relationship issues, complex trauma/childhood wounds, racial stress and trauma, and navigating adulthood/"failure to launch" and masculinity. As a Black man, I am committed to addressing the unique experiences of and challenges that face BIPOC men. I believe that humans are wired for connection and that profound and lasting healing comes from satisfying this essential need. My work is based on AEDP Psychotherapy (formally known as Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy) and Emotionally Focused Therapy. The AEDP Institute (aedpinstitute.org) describes AEDP Psychotherapy as “an experiential model that seeks to alleviate patients’ psychological suffering by helping them process the overwhelming emotions associated with trauma in a way that facilitates corrective emotional and relational experiences that mobilize positive changes in our neuroplastic brains.” The International Centre for Excellence in Emotionally Focused Therapy (iceeft.com/) describes Emotionally Focused Therapy as a “form of therapy that helps people understand and improve their emotional connection with themselves and others.” Both therapies emphasize the importance of our relationships with ourselves and others and use the power of corrective experiences with our emotions within the safe haven and secure base of the therapist-client relationship to fuel growth and healing. I also use skills and techniques from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and other approaches that emphasize mindfulness, acceptance, and compassion when needed to facilitate healing. I come from a family of helpers and healers, and I have been privileged to help people in a variety of roles and settings. I have worked as a state social welfare caseworker, an assistant in a state library for the blind and disabled, a respiratory therapist and a medical social worker. I grew up in a military family and was fortunate to be exposed to and learn from a variety of cultures. I am a member of the "sandwich generation” and know what it means to care for and support older and younger family members with chronic illness and disability simultaneously. As a person living with chronic illness, I also have lived experience with the challenges and limitations that come along with living with a disability. My experiences have fostered in me a deep appreciation of and respect for the diversity of the human experience. When I am not working, I enjoy all things that involve good food, friends, and family. I look forward to learning more about you, who and what matters to you, and traveling with you on your journey of hope and healing!

I understand that deciding to start therapy can be difficult. At one point in my life, I was faced with that same decision. Often, the hardest part of therapy is looking in the mirror and confronting the experiences and choices that brought you to this moment. It takes courage to acknowledge your feelings and commit to making a change for yourself. My therapeutic style is client-centered, rooted in the belief that genuine, collaborative relationships form the cornerstone of meaningful healing and growth. This integrative framework allows me to tailor treatment to each client’s unique needs, fostering self-awareness, resilience, and lasting change. You can expect their first session with me to be warm, exploratory, unveiling, and empowering, a mix of thoughtful reflection, practical goal-setting, and gentle curiosity about what’s driving current challenges and how to create positive change.

Do you struggle with getting out of bed, intrusive thoughts, or worries that keep you from being your best self? As a child of immigrants, do you experience anxiety and depression shaped by cultural expectations and family pressures? My ideal client seeks a safe space to explore these challenges. They want to break free from patterns of self-doubt and stress, develop healthier coping skills, and achieve a sense of self-acceptance and clarity in order to thrive, not just survive. Am I American enough? Desi enough? I work with first-generation immigrants, South Asians, Muslims, women, and young adults. I also enjoy supporting those navigating women’s health issues and chronic pain. As a first-generation immigrant, I understand the balance between assimilation and cultural expectations and can help navigate dual identities. If these struggles resonate with you, I’d be honored to partner with you on your journey to healing and growth. Taking the first step toward change is powerful, and I’m proud of you for considering it. I’m here to support you in creating the best version of yourself, and I look forward to being part of your healing process.

I believe that hope and healing is an attainable goal for everyone. I work with individuals and families coping with depression, self esteem, anxiety, behavior problems, relationship issues, adoption, grief, domestic violence, and multicultural issues to help them them recover from trauma, refocus on the things that bring true joy, and find healing. I believe that when clients learn to refocus their thoughts and make key behavioral changes, they are able to find peace and renewed wellness. A Christ centered approach is offered and discussions of faith are welcome while not mandatory. Client's views are respected and honored. I operate primarily from a Cognitive Behavioral model, focusing on the connection between our thoughts, feelings and behaviors and how to bring about change. This approach is well suited to working with a wide variety of issues including Depressive and Anxiety Disorders. Millie, my therapy dog in training, also accompanies me to the office some days. I grew up in several countries all over the world which now allows me to offer counseling from an expert point of view on the unique challenges facing "third culture kids" and their families. I am also well versed in Latin American culture and am fluent in Spanish.

“Baby steps” + “you gotta feel it to heal it” are two truths that guide my work as a therapist. I believe healing unfolds when we move at a pace that honors your body, your story, and your inner knowing. I show up with care, curiosity, and a liberatory-focused, neurodivergent-affirming lens to support your growth, self-trust, and embodied healing. As a 1.5-generation, neuroqueer, Afro-Latina AuDHDer, I understand the complexities of moving through a world not designed to hold all of who you are. I offer space for PoGM, QT2BIPOC, immigrant, 2SLGBTGEQIAP+, and neurodivergent (Autistic, ADHD, OCD, CPTSD, etc.) adults to explore, reclaim, and come home to themselves.

At Stillwell Athens, we offer both individual counseling and an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) to support college students and all young adults who are navigating emotional, relational, or life transitions. We provide different levels of care so clients can access the amount of support they need, whether that’s weekly therapy or more structured, consistent treatment, without stepping away from school, work, or daily responsibilities. Our approach is relational, developmentally informed, and evidence-based. We work with individuals, couples, and families using modalities such as CBT and DBT, alongside experiential and creative approaches when appropriate. We regularly support college students and young adults adjusting to independence, academic or career stress, and relationship challenges, as well as adults and parents managing changing family dynamics, identity shifts, and major life decisions. For those who need more than individual therapy alone, our IOP provides increased structure, group support, and clinical care while remaining fully outpatient. This option is well-suited for clients who are feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or in need of additional accountability and connection. 10-15 hours of therapeutic support per week. At Stillwell, we focus on helping our clients build insight, develop practical skills, and strengthen the supports that allow for meaningful, sustainable change. You don't have to put your life on hold or compromise your mental health and wellbeing.

Compassion and collaboration are key elements in growing through any life circumstance. Together, we can build a foundation to move forward with insight, hope, and change. I believe therapy is a collaborative process that brings your unique life circumstances and experiences to a safe and warm environment. While growth and change are a life-long process, each challenge can be addressed within a supportive counseling relationship to bring awareness and change. In working from a client-centered perspective, my goal is to work side by side and help you achieve the life you desire. My approach to therapy is largely client-centered wherein I strive to make each client feel comfortable and safe, while simultaneously exploring a cognitive-behavioral model, psychodynamic aspects, trauma-focused, and interpersonal interventions. I received my Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the University of Georgia and completed my clinical internship with college students at Georgia Southern University. I specialize in working with anxiety, depression, self-concept, family/relational concerns, infertility and perinatal loss, perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, trauma, life transitions, and men’s concerns. Additionally, I provide assessments in the areas of psychoeducational assessment, ADHD, learning disabilities, and bariatric assessments. Please feel free to ask me any questions about therapy services or assessment opportunities. I currently offer both in-person and virtual sessions.
